Looking for some scent recommendations...

I know i'll have to go and smell them myself but i just thought i'd ask in case we have any perfume experts on the board.

I received a gift card to Sephora and i've decided to use it on a new perfume. The only thing is i'm kind of picky and i don't have a whole lot of experience on everything that's out there. I tend to lean toward scents that are more...food related (cotton candy, caramel, vanilla) and woodsy rather than floral or citrus.

A few perfumes i really love are: Viva La Juicy (but more for summer), Fantasy by Britney Spears (*cringe* I'm embarrassed to tell people but i love how it smells!) and soooooometimes a Lolita Lempicka one but only on occasion.

I've smelled Aqualine's "Pink Sugar" and i liked it but if i could find something with similar notes that is just a bit more grown up? That'd be ideal. I've been cruising some perfume forums to get ideas but so far every time i seem to find a possibility they don't seem to sell it at Sephora.

If no one has a clue that's fine but i just thought i'd try asking on here before i went and smelled a bunch!

Let me look at what they have at Sephora and get back. I was going to recommend "Pink Sugar" when I read your first paragraph, but I see you already tried it! : )

I think there are some other perfume lovers on here that can make recommendations, too.

Hanae Mori Butterfly would be worth a sniff.

It looks like they have Angel by Theiry Mugler, which is kind of a gourmand staple fragrance:

Also, Lavanila's Pure Vanilla (it's kind of single-note, but if you love vanilla, and straight-forward scents you'll probably really like it):

You *might* like Cleopatra by Tocca. I think it's technically a floral oriental, but might be worth checking out:

Delices de Cartier by Cartier does have some floral notes. I smelled it a long time ago, but I remember it being sweet, closer to Pink Sugar than a really floral-heavy scent:

It *is* a floral, but the jasmine and patchouli combine to produce something much more on the warm, sweet side (it was too sweet for me). I think they have it in store, so it would be worth a sniff.

I second Alicat's suggestion of Butterfly. Very pretty.

I haven't smelled this one, but the notes look similar to Pink Sugar. Maybe that blend will seem a little more mature to your nose.

Okay, sorry, one more response. If you like woodsy scents, don't ignore the Men's fragrance section. My favorite perfume EVER is a men's fragrance. I'm afraid I can't make any specific recommendations, but if you have a Sephora nearby, it might be worth taking a stroll through that section.

Ralph Hot by Ralph Lauren is a gourmand I remember having liked. For more warm-sweater-type chocolate, I like Comptoir Sud Pacifique Amour de Cacao. For a gourmand that's not at all chocolate-y, I love Lann-Ael by Lostmarch.

I liked Viva La Juicy quite a bit...it's got a permanent place on my dresser, even if it's not my "go to" every-day fragrance. I do like it quite a bit, just that it's not "it" for me for some reason.

Also really loved Lancome AromaTonic (long since discontinued) - this is *nothing* like Viva La Juicy, but it's a lovely fragrance. I'm so disappointed that it's been discontinued.

Lately, I'm in love with Versace Versense. Nothing like Viva La Juicy at all - it's very green, crisp and ..well I love it? Worth a sniff at your favourite department or beauty store. My husband absolutely loves Versense on me...it's almost as good as my old favourite (Lancome Aromatonic), perhaps even better. I'm actually getting comments lately? My dental hygenist a few weeks ago, hair stylist just today - they are raving about this fragrance. This is pretty much the only fragrance in recent memory where people are asking me about it. Just the other day, a guy behind me in the grocery store checkout lane followed me out of the grocery store and into the parking lot to ask me about the fragrance. And I don't wear a ton of cologne or anything - just the barest hint of it in the morning, and that's all. I just spray the cologne into the air (just one spritz) and step into it after doing makeup in the morning.

I think Versense might be kind of different, so am not sure if most would like it - it's just the first cologne I've worn where I've had people commenting on it - a first for me. I have never had anyone follow me out to my car to ask about my cologne, and just the other day - my dog trainer/dog walker guy commented on it.

It's very green, and kind of different - but seems to be something people like on me. Worth checking out when you have a chance.

---> editing to add: nicole - I just re-read your post and noticed you like fragrances that are somewhat food-like, and wanted to say that I don't think Versace Versense is like that at all - but since I also like Viva La Juicy *and* I like Versense, even thought the two are completely different - my recommendation to at least go and smell Versense still stands. That said though, it's not vanilla-y, it's not candy-like, or food-like in any way. That said, this confirmed choco-holic loves Versence for it's non-sweet, non-food-like personality

VC, I haven't smelled this one yet, but I'm headed to Nordstrom tomorrow to get some pants hemmed. I will check it out. Thanks for the review! Have you tried Chanel No. 19? It's also very green, with a powdery note.

I have not tried Chanel No. 19 Ana, but will be sure to look for it the next time I'm at a cosmetics counter. Thanks for the recommendation - since I'm still sort of looking for my so-called "signature" fragrance.

Just went and smelled the Versense out of the bottle - if you try it - be sure to actually try it, spritz some on, and wait a bit. It changes once it's on. I said it was kind of 'green', but it also has a kind of mandarin hint to it later on, after it's been spritzed on for a good ten minutes or so. It's like nothing else I have and it's the very first cologne I've worn where I have people asking me about it. A first for me

If you like a light scent I am a big fan of beautiful, Eternity and white diamonds. I have not checked out sephora, may have to get over there

Sounds like I like the same types of scents as you!

My current fave is Prada Candy, but I don't know if Sephora has it yet. I think the sales lady at the mall said the notes are Caramel and Toffee?

I also really like Flowerbomb (technically a floral but smells like a warm cotton candy to me), Acqua di Parma's Mandorlo di Sicilia (smells like cream soda), and Demeter's Waffle Cone (probably the most budget-friendly).

Sephora used to carry (may still carry, I dunno cuz I'm too cheap to shop there nowadays) lines by Laurence Dumont. Crazy awesome gourmand scents. I have Tendre Madeleine. They also make delicious sounding Vanille Bourbon, Vanille Abricot, Creme Brulee....

In reading reviews, people also sem to like the gourmands by Comptoire Sud Pacifique.

Please keep us posted on what you choose - I'm always looking for new foody scents to sniff!

Thanks you! I'm headed out to Sephora today so i came back here to see if there are any new reponses! I'm writing all of yours down too. I know i would be able to smell them all (i'm hoping they might send me home with some samples) but hopefully this list combined with some sale associate help i'll be able to find something i love.

Ok i'm back! I smelled WAY too many different perfumes lol. Little bit of a headache right now. A wonderful sales assistant helped me out as well. I warned her i was picky and i felt like i was saying, "no. nope." a lot lol. But she was super nice so it was all good. I ended up liking Hanae Mori Butterfly the best (thanks Ali!) of the ones i smelled and took a sample home so i can wear it a few days and see how i still feel about it.

And Rae after reading some reviews i really wanted to try Prada Candy but Sephora must not carry it.

Ana i tried a bunch of your suggestions too so thanks so much! Of the ones you said i liked "Angel" but just sniffing the sample i didn't fall in love right away.

I had this idea in my head that i would really like Flowerbomb for some reason but i tried it today and i did not. ;-/
