Looking for my leather jacket

I've decided that one of the items I really want to get with my "summer fun money" for fall is a black leather jacket/blazer. And as suggested by Sveta, I'm going to look at Danier Leather - a great Canadian company that sells quality leather goods. I can look in my local store as well as shop their online store. Returns from online can be made to my local store and they provide alterations such as sleeve shortening (pretty much a given for me!).

I've decided on black since I think it will be the most versatile for my fall/winter wardrobe - please correct me if I'm wrong? I already have my lovely purple leather jacket from hubby from Danier, as well as my faux leather cognac and dark denim blue jackets.

I'd want something not too long, fairly form fitting and quite simple in shape and design but with something edgy about it. What do you think of these offerings? What's worth ordering to try on? The red jacket would be in black for me. And the last jacket isn't black at all but very interesting and kind of caught my eye.

If you want to go for black I love the third one, it's seriously awesome!

I don't like the pockets on the first one. The second is a classic and would work well for you, I think.

The last one is also great and very interesting. I can see why it caught your eye. How would the color work for you?

Wow! I love all four of them seriously. Each one has such interesting details to them. I would probably try the #3 and #4 pics first.

Oh, wow wow wow to #3 and #4! #3 looks closest to what you described - form fitting and simple yet edgy. The first two don't look edgy at all to my eye, but those tiers are both subtle and exciting. #4, yes, it is not black, but it is SO COOL! And it still has some very dark, almost black "marbling" effects. If the cognac jacket I ordered doesn't work out, I may have to seriously think about that one for myself...

Just noticed the only color available for #4 is "slate" which looks like a very light gray in the "color dot." I wonder if it is different than the in the picture?

I love all four of these, especially the 4th one. The only thing I'd be worried about is if it would look good worn open?

3 looks the most like what you described, but would it be a problem if you can't close it up to the neck? I can see the style of the fourth one working well for you, but not sure about the color because it doesn't really look black on my screen.

My first choice is the third one - it has edgy tiers and lines, but still so refined and chic! Also, the lack of collar could work nicely with shirt collars , , , like Brooks Bros or Nexx.

I'm also interested in the fourth one, but wonder if the color reads like a stripey grey, or looks more neutral IRL. I've also been leaning away from asymmetrical lately because they get difficult to stylishly wear unzipped.

I wouldn't be afraid of a grey though -- sometimes I feel like poseur in black leather, and grey would be a nice variation. .

Fun selection and wise to check out Danier :-).

Oh I gasped when I saw that first one. and then I looked at them all and came back to the first one for you.

Reasoning...it is fitted but a touch more sophisticated and ladylike. That felt like you.

I think for an investment piece the red one is too tame in cut and could get some frump when sized up, ya know?

And the other too I think are more for the willowy types. Sorry, Shannon. Fun and retro lady for you

PS; when I have looked for leather, I have struggled to find something that doesn't smash the girls when zipped up. The red one probably avoids that

I'm an absolute no on the red. Too much like a blazer and looks weirdly dated to me already.

LOVE #3 and #4, but am trying to imagine how #4 would work in your current wardrobe. It's very Allsaints and RATE and I think the peplum is interesting but could be hard to wear for us shorter folks, depending on how the jacket is cut IRL.

#1 is a good compromise, but I have an issue with that neckline.

So I pick #3 FTW - edgy, versatile, flattering.

Shannon, this is a great start, but be super picky--make sure you can try whatever you are considering on, if you order--can return with ease--best of luck!

I like #3 the best. It's edgy and cool, and looks like it would be a flattering cut. (of course it WOULD be the most expensive one!)
#1 is nice, but I think the ruffles might be limiting. I'm not crazy about the two-toned sleeves of #4, or the wide lapels of #2.

Wow, I see why you wouldn't need to look past Danier. I think some of us are going to have cross border envy from south to north.

Of your choices I like the third the best, followed by the fourth. The first is a bit too prissy and the blazer style is a bit dated.

Oh, #3 is a clear winner, followed by #4, then #1. I'd skip #2. Can't wait for you to try these on for us!!

Smart you to be thinking ahead! I think that leather is an excellent buy with your summer fun money.

I think that #3 is the best choice for your body type. The open collar will elongate your neck and the jacket's simple lines will compliment your modern classic style.

Judging from the photo, the jacket can be worn as a blazer as well (which helps with the CPW). I think that it will look fabulous with jeans as well as dress clothes.

Please keep us up-to-date on your choices.

#3 is GREAT - perfect mix of classic/edge.

I like # 1 for its simplicity of design and feminine details, plus it will look great either done up or undone.
Don't like the red one at all - something about the wide lapels looks sort of frumpy to my eye.
#4 is a super colour and style, but probably not that great a choice if you want to wear it undone.
#3 is an interesting cut - the seaming detail has a futuristic Star Wars look to it that I kind of like. It might be worth a try just to see how it fits on you.

I love #3.
Don't like the crinkle texture of #1, at all.
The blazer is nice, but I'm not sure about the red.
#4 is trying to hard, seems to be an attempt and fail at All Saints.

LOVE #3 and then #2 but I would get 2 in red. I think the neckline in #1 would be difficult to work with and as a hippy one (not 70s) I wouldn't tend towards a jacket with pockets placed above the hips.

I was wondering why you were looking at online shopping for leather jackets when we have the wonderful Danier so close by.

I love 3 but the red one, #2 is such a great classic style, too. I suppose it would make sense to pick the shape and style that would flatter your particular body shape best. Maybe that would help narrow things down. Personally, I would pick 2 because I look better with the V of the lapel, because I'm and inverted triangle and every broad shoulderered?

Dianthus - just looking to get ideas. I will definitely be going into a brick and mortar store for actual try ons. The web also has more styles available than they carry in store.

#3 is definitey my favourite. Number 2 would be a definite NO for me, as leather blazers can be very tricky to wear and can easily look dated. Additionally, the red colour isn[t working, IMO. The first one is too crinkly and ruffly for my eye - just too busy. The last one has possibilities, although I think the third is edgier and sleeker (and would likely be more flattering) at the same time.

Danier is great, isn't it? I usually try to bypass their store in the mall because I get stuck there for hours trying everything on and mu wallet is always in a serious danger.
Try to struck a friendship with one of the SAs there. Danier usually has a couple of big sales per year - like additional 20% off what is already on sale.
As for your selection I really like ##3 and 4. #3 should be easier to wear though - I seriously think about checking it out myself...
They don't have everything in the store but they can order for you and it will come to the store. Sometimes you have to pay a deposit (which is refundable if you don't like it) and sometimes they wave it.
I am so excited for you - let's get you to the store and see those babies on!

Another vote here for #3! Love how it's streamlined but distinctive. Just enough detail to be a little different.

Another vote for #3! Fab, interesting and slightly edgy. Second choice would be #1. I think the shape of the jacket, the ruffled pockets all give it that slightly retro ladylike vibe that would go so well with your style. With the textured leather, it's almost like a Chanel tweed jacket, in leather. #2 seems a little boring and dated and #4 is kind of cool, but not sure about the grey color (blends with your hair too much) and it's a little TMGO--I think you'd do better with a sleeker jacket.
