Looking for Milan travel tips

Am heading to Milan for a conference in early May - and am excited at the thought of taking in the fashion, shopping and dining. I've been reading up on Milan, but wondered if any fabbers could share some of their favourite shopping areas and places to dine. grazie!!

Milan is fabulous. Have pasta each day and multiple helpings of gelato each day. Also happy hour (there is a special name for it in Milan that escapes me) at 5pm is AMAZING. All the finger food is free, and the atmosphere is festive.

The airport is VERY far away from the city centre. Is your transport organized yet? It will cost 150 Euros if you take a cab, so we took the bus which was half the price and quite comfortable. (It takes almost 2 hours).

Half my work group is in Milan this week. I will have to see what everyone says. So far the report is - it's a dressy town

I enjoyed Milano a lot last year (around the same time--April). I don't remember it being THAT far from the airport, but we did take a bus to get to the city.

It was just an interesting walking city, though more will come back to me later. We saw some good museum exhibits too.

We went to the same restaurant Angie wrote up here. A few really good places, actually. Let me get back to you on this!

You have to go look at "The Last Supper". It's best to book tickets in advance. They literally guide you through.

I've been to Milan last year on a study trip and while we had a full schedule we also could do some other things. We visited both the Pinacoteca di Brera and the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, in the latter we even had an exclusive tour on a day closed to the public. And visited all the other most important sights, but you probably have that in your reading material. I don't have any tips about eating or shopping, unfortunately.

I've wanted to post some pictures, but I fear all of mine are rather atypical for tourist pictures. I'm doing it anyway.

I also thought it was a great walking city. We saw a lot in just one day of walking.

I second making a reservation for the Last Supper - I had to check online multiple times for about a month before some days/times suddenly became available.

Pasta and gelato sounds like my kind of dining - and love that happy hour comes with great nibblies. More money for shopping I've been studying the transportation system and thought that the shuttle bus in might be doable - glad to get confirmation Angie!

Rachylou - is your work group on 'food business'? Would love to hear the report back, and from you as well Mochi. You gave me some great tips for Japan.

Love your pictures Astrid - they are from a different time altogether. Sounds like you had a wonderful time. And thank you and Makrame for mentioning The Last Supper, I need to get on to making reservations. Was hoping to hear/see a performance at La Scala but schedules are not aligning - might just have to do a tour.
