Looking for lightweight summer toppers

Help! I love this blue Uniqlo sleeveless linen blend dress but haven’t been able to find a topper to go with it. I like the dress best belted and everything I am seeing seems to hit at an awkward place on the hip or is too heavy for mid-80s humid weather. What is out there that I am missing?

Toppers are sometimes tricky when dealing with hot, humid weather. I agree with April's recommendation white jean jackets. I also like kimonos for more causal wear and drape front knit blazers for work wear.

Thanks April and Nuancedream. Denim jackets and drape front cardigans were my first thought but everything I’ve tried falls at mid to high hip and makes me look very bulky. I am a pear with quite narrow shoulders so blazers are hard to fit. I have been looking for summer shawls or even shrugs to see if they might be a solution but not seeing them in stores.

I was going to suggest a white jean jacket. I also like linen knit cardigans S summer toppers and found a thrift shop EF one in shades of navy and denim blue that is my favorite. The marled yarn goes with anything dark blue. A favorite color would also work with this dress, such as red, pink, green or aqua. Try black, especially if you can find an accessory with both blue and black to pull everything together.

Thanks Kerry — the BR cardigan looks promising and they also have a linen version. The linen one isn’t available in the stores near me so I might order both online.

printed rayon and/or silk chiffon kimonos (in two lengths : fingertip and knee length) are selling really for me this season ( I sell to indie fashion boutiques, garden centres, bookstores, gift shops et) and they are a really nice alternative to the ubiquitous denim jacket. I wore one yesterday with a pair of olive green cotton joggers and a distressed black t-shirt and wedges .

I also just received this pale pink faux suede moto yesterday and love it. A little warm for outdoors but great in an office or indoor setting with AC.

Thanks everyone! I grabbed a white linen shrug at TJMaxx that is similar to the BR one and will do until I get something better. Neatnic, I have a heavier cotton version of the Nic+Zoe cardigan and the shape does indeed work so a lightweight linen one looks promising. I will wear the dress out this weekend to do some shopping and see what else I see — Lisa’s kimono suggestion now has me wondering if I can find a print that would work.

what about this long linen shirt tied where you would normally belt the dress?
not sure why the find is just showing a swatch instead of the shirt, but if you follow the find it should take you to the correct page...this being Uniqlo there are about a 1/2 dozen colors)

I like shorter/cropped button down blouses as toppers for summer. They can be worn open or you can button one button. Tie-front blouses also work well and fall at the right place for wearing over dresses. The long sleeved blouse looks great tied at the waist, too.
