I know Angie has written some terrific postings on doing a style refresh and/or renewal (I think those were the terms). I've been trying to find them but having no luck searching the archives. If anyone knows where to find them could they please post some pointers?

Sometimes I feel like I’m so boring in my makeup routine, but I don’t like anything too bold on my face. Nonetheless, maybe I should have someone do my makeup sometime and see if I learn anything new!

I want to spend less time shopping this year and instead try to mix up my outfits more, so I’ll be trying more unexpected (for me) pairings. Good advice.

Janet -- I endorse having someone do your makeup.

My problem arises when the person doing the makeup has the motive to sell me as much product as possible. They use a lot of different products (most of which I would never have time for in the morning) and they layer it on THICK. The few times I had it done, I left the store in embarrassment, hoping I wouldn't run into anyone I knew. I hope you have better results.

I ditto Sterling's suggestion. Have someone do your makeup. My mom convinced me to have mine done at Macy's a few years ago and told the girl to put on what she thought would look good on me. I never would've picked that shade of lipstick (it looked brown!!!) and blush but they were flattering. As far as the sales pitch goes, I tell them right up front that I'm only going to buy a lipstick. Aside from mascara that I buy at CVS and that two year old tub of blush, I don't wear any other makeup and don't plan on starting.

Thanks for asking this question and thanks for the articles! I recently went through major life changes and I’ve been through a slow and steady Style Renewal in the process. While I am comfortable with my cold weather style, I’m realizing that my warm weather style will involve different silhouettes! I’ll definitely need YLF’s help with this!

RE; Make up refreshes

I've had great success with makeup refreshes from Sephora. I'm a totally minimalist makeup person, and I've told them that, they have always respected that, and I've gotten recommendations for just the products that i actually wear. i tend to get a refresh every couple of years, either because I've changed my hair color or because what i was wearing is no longer available (my worst experience, unfortunately was at Nordstrom's... and I ended up getting overloaded with products I would never wear and looking "made up" which is never my look)

Yeah, I'm always fearful of the obvious foundation look. Some MUA's try to cover every variation in my skin tone, and yes, I have freckles and a very prominent age spot on the bridge of my nose. Ain't nothing gonna hide that bad boy, so don't even try. :-/

I did have a MUA work with me when a portrait photographer recently took some shots of me, and she did a nice job. But it was tough to really follow everything she was doing because it was for a photo shoot and not to educate me on products or application.

I keep reading that after a "certain age" we should change from powder blush to cream blush, and I just haven't been able to bring myself to do that. So I'm sure some of my make up habits are just stubborn habits that could stand some updating.
