looking for a cute, textured, retro-looking cardigan

...or something in that spirit (a kimono could work). I wondered if Fabbers might have any ideas. BUT I've already scoured lastcall.com, Nordstrom (and The Rack, online), I've looked over at polyvore, etc. Maybe I'm too fussy--was trying to avoid synthetics, etc (am trying to be more open-minded now). And some of these little sweaters are very pricey, including the inspiration sweater I'm about to post.

But that is the kind of thing I'm interested in to wear with a nice dress (that's also a bit vintage-looking). I would prefer it to be black but I could consider other colors that meshed with my dress (avoid very bright colors, sticking with neutrals).

Here is the Tahari thing that inspires me, but it's 1. almost sold out--perhaps still available on amazon, 2. I'm not sure if the largest size would fit and not sure of their return policy and 3. yes, at about $215 it's pretty costly.

But I love that it's textured and kind of feminine in an exotic, flamenco-y way. It would go over a Tadashi Shoji dress. I'm also open to considering shawls, but haven't found anything I like in that area either. I procrastinated and don't have a huge amount of time, but if shipping is fast I could probably still order it in the next few days.

(ETA that I did just have a chat with an amazon rep and confirmed that I can return the jacket if it doesn't fit. I got an emailed transcript of our chat--at least he told me he'd send one.)

It's pretty costly but I really like it a lot, so I'll think on it for the moment. And I might then rationalize that I don't have a lot of clothes.....

(ETA2: The XL still may not fit, though.....)

Can you afford the inspiration sweater?

Frankly, this is such a stunning piece nothing else is going to hold a candle to it. It's beautiful but still a statement piece.

A cheaper piece, well, it's going to look it. The style and elegance are going to be hard to find.

If it truly is out of your price range, Amazon or Etsy would be where I'd start.

What a stunning piece! If you can return, it's certainly worth the chance. I'll keep a lookout, since I'd like to add something similar in my wardrobe. I'm on a strict budget, and sizing will be an issue for me, too.

Both the topper and the dress are beautiful, but I would not wear them together.
For me the beauty of the topper is the lacy design, which I think gets lost if worn over anything patterned or textured and the whole would then look too busy for me.

My first reaction was similar to Minnie's. I do think it's possible two pieces like these could be worn together and work, but I'm not sure if the overall effect would equal the sum of the parts or they'd cancel each other out to some degree.
Do you have a plainer dress you could also try with the topper?

Minnie and Jules, I had been thinking that way, too. And you've inspired me to consider the topper with another plainer but sleek, sleeveless dress I already own. The dress is also black, so a lot of the detail of the topper would disappear into the dress, but I'm hoping it would add some textural interest. And the sleeves would not compete with the dress.

I've ordered it through Amazon, so I hope it works out (not to mention comes on time).
