Longchamps tote: is it time for me to get one?

Nordstroms is having a sale on summer-colored Longchamps tote bags. I've been tempted to get one forever, although I tend to need/use totes for work more in the winter than the summer. but I could definitely find uses for a white one this summer! All I have still are cheap totes, and now that I have a good collection of bags, I am thinking it might be time to step up my game.

What do you guys think? Would it work for my classic, upper-end business casual style, or it just boring classic?

I have one of these that I use exclusively for travel and love it. It's lightweight and the straps are the perfect comfortable length. I think it's a good work bag and you can fit a *ton* of stuff in it (including a laptop!)

Taylor my cats love clean washing! and my dressing gown..... in fact if I put any clothing on the bed particularly if it's been worn they're on it like a shot x

I hope you don't mind me being a lone dissenter here Kristen. I love your work style, your shoes in particular BUT the nylon on this bag looks too casual for the rest of your work style in my honest opinion. I view this more as gorgeous weekend bag.

Edit: I just wanted to add that my office is at the conservative end of business casual.

R&J, I appreciate the dissenting opinion! Hmmm, you have a point, although my new office is a lot more casual than my old one was. I currently use an actual computer bag to tote my laptop around to meetings, and I often think that while it is functional it is incredibly ugly and, well, more like a man's bag than a woman's. I look uncoordinated, imo. I am also wondering if it would work for a weekend bag; I've been going downtown a lot lately with a girlfriend, and I haven't had the right sized bag to carry my bigger camera and my workout gear.

I think I should wander over to Nordstroms in the next couple of days and see one in person. It's difficult for me to judge without seeing it up close!

These are pretty, lightweight, foldable ... I can see why Marianna loves it for travel. The style is classic and the colors make it fun. Definitely up your alley.

Am I the only one who doesn't like these bags? I think for a nylon bag the price is ridiculous and it doesn't even look nice. My husband offered to buy me one, but I refused. To me they look like grocery bags. Plus, at least here in Germany almost EVERYBODY is toting one of these around. I just saw two girls that I'd say were no older than 12 at the mall with pink Longchamps (or knock-offs).

I can see that they are probably very practical, though. Still, I'd rather spend a bit more and get another bag.

Hmmm. May I suggest that you buy one and model it at home with your work style. See if it gels. This is Nordies so returns are easy.

I was thinking about white for the summer, Angie. I think I will swing by Nordies tonight and check it out -- bringing it home and testing it with my summer outfits is an excellent idea, thank you for planting it!

Even if it turns out not to be perfect for work (which I think it will be anyway) I am actually headed downtown this weekend for the day of yoga and the Taste of Chicago, so something like this would be perfect.

Julia, I understand your dislike of them; for the longest time I have held out on getting a real tote and just stuffing things into my purse or a junky one. But for me, it's going back to that discussion about quality vs. quantity -- I'm ready now to step up to a better-quality tote that will last me a while instead of "making do" with whatever bag I have handy that is big enough for what I want to carry.

I am not a huge fan of Longchamps, but they are definitely a Euro classic. Now my voice of practicality here wonders how long *white* would look fab?

That said, at $100, you could choose from a number of quality computer-toting bags. Maybe you don't want to look in person, but if you are near a TJMaxx or Marshall's they often have a lovely, albeit random, selection of Italian leather bags large enough for laptops.

UPDATE: I went to Nordstroms last night, and was sorely disappointed. I had not seen the Longchamps bag in person before, just online. Not impressed at all, sadly; I was expecting it to be a little more lined, and the leather straps and clasp to be more prominent. It did not help the cause that my Nordstroms only had the most boring, bland, unattractive colors available: beige, tan, dull brown, flat navy, and a terrible purple. Only one strawberry one, and none of the sunny summer colors from the site.

The tote search continues! Thanks for all of your help, and R&J, no worries about eating your words!
