Long wool winter coat--suggestions appreciated!

Last year in my pre-YLF days I bought a black (show-everything- like-cat-and-dog-hair) Jcrew wool with thinsulate pea coat. It hits at the hip.

Now I need a warm (non- black!) long coat to wear with dresses. It gets cold cold cold here. I think I would like gray, tweed, herringbone, white or teal. I am hourglass shape.

JCrew usually has long enough sleeves for me on their coats but I get overwhelmed when I sort through their coats since I have to do it online only.

Can anyone recommend a coat for me to try?

I would also be open to trying a winter white coat and changing the buttons to black since I love that look so much!

How tall are you again? I just bought the Soïa&Kyo Yan-T coat and it looks great (I will post photos this week). For me (I'm 5'8) it's a tad too short to cover my skirts and dresses completely, but if you are a bit shorter, it might work. Oh, and I will definitely have to have the sleeves let out, they really are on the short side.

There are a number of beautiful coats on their site, including tweeds, false plain etc.

I am 5'6.5 " tall.

Is that style pretty good on about anyone? I mean would the shape work for hourglass?

Thank you Debbie, I absolutely love the collar and colour. S&K really does make beautiful coats!

I just measured the sleeves for you - from the upper part of the shoulder seam all the way down, I hope that's the correct way to do this? - and they are about 25.2 inches. Not long enough for me, but as you will see on the thread I'm about to post, they can be let out.

I'm a straight hourglass and I think it works for me (let's hope I don't have to change my mind after showing the pictures on the forum;-)

Thanks for measuring the sleeves. They may work. My Jcrew coat sleeve length is 25" and it is ok.

Yours looks great. Did you order from their website? I am unfamilar with this brand but LOVE the coats they have on it.

If I normally wear an 8 or medium would I go to a large or 10 in this brand?

Yes, I did order directly from their website. Nordstrom and a few other stores have a some of their coats online too, but I didn't see the Yan-T there (or at least not in purple).

I'm not very familiar with US sizing, but if you look at their size chart I was actually in between a small and a medium, but I decided to go with the large because I really want to be able to wear thicker sweaters underneath.
