Long, straight sweaters and tee's for layering.

I'm a new member and I'm realizing that elongating my 5'4" figure with longer layers is -- a bit difficult when you can't find long layers. One of my big issues: I need crew, cowl, or funnel neck (works best for my broad shoulders). Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Ooh, I can help you. Long layering tanks. I like floaty fabrics like silk to mix the texture up. Here's a recent example (#5), albeit without the requisite high neckline. You could change that though, and go with a color-matched tank/undershirt in order to elongate.

i think my body type is opposite of your but i have a friend with a similar body type who finds long layers at eddie bauer.

In re-reading your post, it appears I may have misinterpreted your need. I thought perhaps you were wanting to add length to crew, mock or turtleneck sweaters by adding a (not necessarily warm) underlayer. Long turtlenecks can be had cheaply at H&M, for one. All of their long sleeve shirts tend to be long on me, FWIW. Perhaps if you showed us what you were thinking about trying to elongate from your closet, we could be more helpful

This is more of what I am needing. Very simple, on the straighter side, crew or cowl sweater. And tee's that hang straight and long. Thanks!!

Try a man's knit crewneck. They are longer and straight.
Here is a photo of a man's small that I wore this week. Although it is partly tucked here, you can see that it has plenty of length.
ETA: I see that this one is not a crew neck but I'm sure that you can find them. This one is merino wool from BR and used to be DS's

Thanks Joy for the tip about trying a man's crew. I'll give that a try. I can't see the picture yet - tomorrow will be my third day as a member. Can't wait to see pictures!

I am also 5'4" with broad ish shoulders, short ish neck and torso and longer legs. I find that long merino sweaters from Everlane (crew) and Uniqlo (v neck) and Reiss (v neck) have been good to me this winter.

In my opinion the best thing to minimize broad shoulders is a slightly drop shoulder top. Two sweaters I own and like for this reason are attached in finds.

As for trying to look taller, I have to hit just the right spot with tops -- there's a certain mid length that does not work. But I have this light grey jacket below -- it is very long on me, but works.

I'm a fan of heels, weather permitting.
