Long Jacket Help Please-edited

Hi,

Trying to decide if this jacket is bad or good. I know a lot of you dislike this look.

Maybe it would be described better as Equestrian jacket?

Here are some pics to help me decide if is too over the top. It is navy blue 100% wool with cotton velvet detailing, new old stock from the good old 80s/90s. I know it will be costume-y if not styled carefully.

-Held up by my lovely young assistant (working on a tripod set up! )
-I would style with dark skinnies, lace up boots, or perhaps, booties with heel buckle detail.

I decided to pass it on. Like Carter said, it's too straight. I was getting a weird style vibe---undertaker!. It's such a fine line w/ neo-victorian looks!

Well, I think it looks cool with those booties. They are fab and would add a good dose of edge to your outfit. I think skinnies would look great too. You have my blessing

Hard to tell still. I'd really like to see it on you. When I wear this mid-thigh length, I find that I need some shaping at my waist to not look like I'm wearing my husband's sport coat. Can't really tell in the picture whether it's shaped or straight.

Thanks Diane! Very good point Carter. I think you nailed the exact issue I might have with it. I think it is too straight without darts. I am going to give it away.

I'd love to see it on you. It does look long for your assistant! I agree that careful styling would be needed. What were your thoughts on a top/blouse?

Sorry I missed this. I echo IK that I think you need to see it on. You know I am in long jacket love so I am sorry to hear that it went. But if so, I am sure there will be more long jackets in your future. I am a huge equestrian style jacket fan. I like them if they are fitted and can be buttoned all the way down in which case I would wear them with leggings/leather leggings. If I wear them open narrow tunic and skinnies or leggings again or short skirt with booties. But that's me. If you are interested in a fitted long jacket did you try the Theory Marcela urban? Bloomingdales has it. I have the same jacket in the rialto material and love it.
