I wear long cardigans a lot, and I'm interested in adding a few more to my wardrobe this winter, because I've had to retire/demote some favorites. I find them really useful for transitional weather and great layers over sleeveless tops for winters indoors. I also think they'll still be useful for me in California, for the same reasons I find them so good for transitional weather here in Colorado.

I tried several on while shopping yesterday, but didn't buy anything yet. Does anyone have any other recommendations? Anthro seems to have a LOT of these this year.

Photo 1 - DuPont Cardi at Anthropologie. I liked this one, and think it would be great with jeans.

Photo 2 - Merzouga kimono. “One size” was too small on me.

Photo 3 - Thornton longline cardigan. I only saw it in the white, which I didn't like, but I'd like to try the "honey" colorway.

Photo 4 - EF cardigan in same color as my pants. I didn't like the pairing, but I LOVED this cardigan over a black tank dress.

Also in Finds: the Pendleton sweater coat. Anthro carries this online only, but Pendleton is having a Friends and Family sale next week, and I'm hoping they have it available in my size to try on at the local store.

And in Finds: The Johnny Was cardigan hoodie that I already own. One of my favorite wardrobe pieces.

The kimono’s too small? That’s unfortunate, because I like the drama of it on you, think you pull that off well. I was thinking I’d keep my eye out for one of these while shopping the other day, and if I saw a good’un, pick it up. But I saw SO many of them! No way I could choose unless I turned my focus completely to that (unlike the cardi/blazer that just jumped into my cart). I really like the color of the first one on you, think the Pendleton would be good for you too.

I really like the shape of the Thornton cardigan on you and it looks great in honey in the catalogue picture. No 4 is also my favorite.

I also liked the kimono on you. I also love the Pendelton one. Gorgeous. The colour of the first one is great on you and I could see that working well with jeans. I wonder if longer is better for some reason.
I like the look of long cardigans but have given up on them for myself. I look like I am drowning in them instead of all cool and edgy. Sigh.

I need to take a Petite so that affects my choices. The first was from NAS and is nice and cozy warm without being wool; my house seems to attract moths. The next four are linen blends. The gray and coral ones are very stretchy and have super dropped shoulders which means they fit over a ton of sleeves which I find important since I run cold and almost never go sleeveless. The final two are my gateway drugs. All of the foregoing are dress length or so.

I have found that the most important thing is finding the right size and that I generally need to size down assuming reviews don't say the sleeves are super narrow. If too narrow it's a no go. But too big means the darn thing looks sloppy.

Because my legs are so short, I find normal cardigan length (low hip) very unflattering since the proportions are off on my particular body.

Just stopped by the Pendelton store. This one might be a little too coat-like for my needs. Maybe. It’s 91° out, so my judgement could be skewed.

I love the DuPont ochre cardi - the shape is interesting and it's a great color with your rust pants or with jeans (plus very popular this season).

So, looking at the Pendleton makes me realize: I'm always torn over long cardis with loose/wide sleeves. On one hand, they're more versatile for layering. On the other, they look more like bathrobes. I think there must be a sleeve width sweet spot...

I saw this one in person the other day and swooned. I'd love to order it myself. I thought of it when I saw your first Anthro pic. The colour is a little more turmeric than tamarind - at least in person , but what do I know about spices? Lol.

Love the Pendleton too. Since when did Anthro start selling Pendleton? It's appearing in the most random places now.

I like the Thornton in honey not cream/white and I would try a size down in #3. I lean toward longer cardi’s. I have cardi’s I wear only at home and others I wear out. These two I love—the Anthro one is lighter for spring and summer; the Leith is heavier. Both very comfy. At home cardi’s incl those by Barefoot in Nordstrom’s.

These two Barefoot Dreams cardi's I wear a lot at home. The circle I got 3 years ago, looks like new. The hooded one I also wear a lot and will run errands in. It comes in non-stripe as well. Both cozy.

The whole outfit in #1 looks great - I like the Dupont length and color with those cool bottoms. I also like the EF. DH is toasting away in SoCal and informs me she needs more summer clothes, stat! But the evenings and nights are nice.

Jenn, I very recently found a rust colored Halogen long cardigan at the Rack that followed me home. It is not an exact match, but blends with the EF russet color. It is warmer than the Halogen linen cardies as it is a merino wool and acrylic blend. It has pockets and was $36.97 from $79. I can't find a Find, but it is probably just what you want. The color name is rust henna. I plan to use it to take my EF russet pants into colder weather.
I will continue to see if I can find it on- line. The knit is fine, not chunky. It looks just like the Anthropology Adria. It seems true to size.

I like the cream cardi in #3 right at the top best. And then the first cardi from Pendleton.

I like 1 3 and 4 the best - in preference over the Pendleton. I would lean to 3 in honey as my very first pick- I like the long length.

I have been keeping a casual eye open for a couple of seasons here and failed to find one that I liked (long enough, not acrylic, not black or navy) so I hope we get a better range next year. So useful for wearing in the morning and then again for later in the day in our climate.

I love the Anthro cardigan, and agree you'll be able to wear them year-round in SoCal. I have a mix of long cardigans from several brands mentioned here. 2 others to add: Ann Taylor and Lafayette 148. Lafayettes are often mixed media, and a frequently on sale at Gilt. AT usually has several colors each season, and lots of sales.
