It looks so refreshing. And with flats to boot. See pic below.

My eye is extremely sensitive to the cropped pants vibe because of leg length shortening challenges. I continue to have a hard time with ankle length pants that aren't worn in a leg-lengthening way. Those of you who have been with YLF for many years can confirm my very consistent feelings about this aesthetic.

But I LOVE long body proportions, which makes the leg line look comparatively short. These viewpoints might sound inconsistent, but the two proportions look completely different to me.

And that's my bit on outfit proportion for the week

Me, too Isabel....isn't it great when what you actually have (curly hair, long torso, etc) can look so good Much less work, much more comfort in your own skin!

I like this look too... maybe because I have the exact opposite proportions with a super short torso and long legs! Unfortunately being pear/hourglass shaped it is often difficult to fake a long torso look without just looking chunky.

Woohoo! Is the long torso maybe having a moment? I don't have one, but when I fake it I have shorter legs. Would be nice if shorter legs were also having a moment.

Ok....this looks great....but don't you think you already have to have decent length legs to pull this off? If you already have short legs (like me) I think this would look ridiculous.

I love this look, but for me to get anywhere near this proportion, my pants would start below my bum. I already have to wear my rises very low just to look semi-proportionate!

So excited! That's my review -- I got them in a 27 and they were waaaaay huge. Hoping the 25 will work because that's all they have.

ETA -- I hope this look can be pulled off if you have the opposite proportions. I do not have a long torso. I think if the pants are pushed down low on your hips, and the crotch is lower, you can pull this off.

I find this very flattering but the slouch and drape on these pants cause me not to think of them as ankle pants (silly I know). They are kind of a variation on skinnies so I would be inclined to style them as such. See the scrunch at the bottom? While I love the look I am not long on the body so I don't know if I could even "fake" this silhouette?

Shannon, I don't think so. Elle McPhearson, Keira Knightly and Kate Moss have long bodies and short legs. They wear these clothing proportions too.

Sveta, a fuller bottom with these proportions needs a slimmer trouser - that's all.

Debs, these are NOT ankle pants. Precisely why I like the proportions.

I am so thankful that we are living in a fashion world which is much more forgiving of body proportions AND outfit proportions. It still has a long way to go - but the steps are in the right direction.

Loving this new look and looking for hints to visually lengthen my short torso. Wearing a black belt to match the top seems to help in this outfit.

Denise, why can't I ever find anything like those jeans when I look on Shopbop? *wailing* Can't wait to see them on you. They are fab. I used to pin my baggy Levis like that (diagonally) in the early 90s, if you can believe that.

Hi Angie! If I may ask a question...isn't it proportionally better to elongate the torso when we wear cropped/ankle pants? That way we are highlighting the style of the pants?

I feel like my longer top in the picture below suits the ankle pants. Or is it because my cardigan matches that I've actually lengthened my legline instead? I'm confused.

Oh this is FAB. I love the red lips and hot pink gloves, they are like punctuation marks to this outfit.

I don't know if I could wear this look well. I have a high waist and a high hip shelf and fear wearing something tailored and yet not waist defining may turn my torso into a cuboid.

Angie this is what happens when I comment first thing in the morning lol. I misunderstood what you were saying. Clearly I should at least have a cup of tea before even contemplating any form of communication in the morning he he. For the record I totally agree, this is a very appealing look. It's quite interesting how one combination that creates a somewhat leg shortening look can be so pleasing to the eye while another not so much. For me it's the lovely flow of this outfit with minimal horizontal lines.

I love it, and to me it has a masculine vibe that I find refreshing. BUT I think this is a look for the straighter-curvyless slimmer women.

I can totally imagine Keira Knightley and Kate Moss in this. Audrey Hepburn as well. The Twilight girl (Kristen Stewart). Emma Watson.

Scarlett Johanson, Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Jennifer Lawrence, Sofia Loren and Marilyn Monroe... not so much!

Irene, you may have a good point. As one of the latter types, and a short-torsoed one at that, I think this would be tough for me to pull off in a flattering way. And that kills me because I love that long lean look!

Jules, you are spot on and have a great memory. I adore wearing low rises with flats to create a long torso effect. And there will be no cuboids on my screen when you wear this look!

AJ, nice to see you back! I tend to see exactly the opposite to you wrt cropped pants. A tucked top with a higher rise elongates the leg line. You might be mixing up low colour contrast with an untucked top though. In your outfit, the same intensity of blue on both the top and bottom create a longer leg line. Try this formula with a red cardigan and the picture changes in the extreme.

I do think curvier women can pull this off! I personally have a hard time not because I have curves per se but because of where the curves are. I have a high, small waist and much larger, high hips. I am what Imogen refers to as an 8 shape, or a high-hip pear. So trying to create a lower waist at my hip ( widest point ) makes me look huge overall. Plus I am so short waisted that even that is not a very long torso look on me. NO waist on the other hand can work.
