In a nut shell,
a man was shot by police investigating gun crime, this sparked a *peaceful* march by his family and friends.
Yobs then saw this as an excuse to cause trouble (breaking into shops and stealing, setting fire to things and generally causing trouble) which started in London. On Monday night violence spread to other parts of the UK. The rather worrying thing is that the majority of these thugs are youths with some are as young as 11!!!!! I don't believe it's gang related but word has spread though social media and more thugs just joined in the trouble x
Its all over the news in Australia. You are all in our thoughts. I haven't seem this evenings new yet but do hope things are getting under control. We saw David Cameron this morning saying that those involved would be prosecuted regardless of age if they are caught. It's truly awful that there are people just looking for any excuse to be violent.
Stay safe, everyone. The pictures we are seeing here are unbelievable- so different from the ordered and mannerly image we usually see of England. Sorry your country is experiencing this dreadful situation.
I'm really relieved to hear from all our UK YLF'ers, and that everyone is ok. Very scary to have rioting and violence going on so close to your home-(
Thank you Ornella and Angie for your concern. The London meet-up was lots of fun, and luckily we weren't affected by these horrible events.
Hopefully this can be stopped very soon!
Oh Angie, thanks for letting us know!! Your brother, sis-in-law and their son are in London, of course, so glad to hear they are well! Hopefully all their friends are too!
