London Fog, keeper?

After seeing Sveta in her gorgeous metallic red trench, I decided to take the plunge. It's a similar style to my favorite corduroy (I know, I know--corduroy gets no love round here) coat but after seeing the pics, I'm wondering if the shoulder line is too strong for my already broad shoulders. FWIW, my only waterproof jacket is a short, black trench from Costco (going on 4 years old.) Thoughts?

You are looking down in the photos but I think with your head held high the shoulder line would look okay. I love the trench and have a slight preference for the red.

I think the slimmer fit of the corduroy is incredibly flattering - no wonder it is your beloved coat

I don't think the shoulder line is too strong for you. I think it has the structure/definition a trench should have.

Comparing the two coats, the London Fog has more body volume and maybe even sleeve volume than your corduroy coat. Are you wearing any bulk (i.e. sweater) under it at all? I also fell in love with Sveta's coat and tried on a Small at the store. I felt it was a little too big unless I wore a sweater or inside jacket under it.

This coat does run big - I usualy take L in coats to accomodate layers under it (it is an outdoor clothing after all so it needs to be roomier) but in this one M was roomy enough - so try to go one size down. It does seem a bit too roomy on you in the lower part. The color is good on you - it is purply burgundy color really rather than red. However I do not see problem with the shoulders - maybe sleeves?
You beloved corduroy coat fits you really well!
When I was trying coats on in the store I tried them with a jacket on so I can see how they fit over other clothing - this is how I am going to wear it.

I do like that red color on you. Not sure about the shoulders on the London Fog ~ not the right person to try to answer that ~ but I can see that the corduroy coat is a bit sleeker on you.

The sleeves on the LF are really bulky, which makes it look big on you. The shoulders are also a bit too wide. I like the color but I think a sleeker fit would look better.

I'm afraid that sizing down wouldn't work. The shoulders fit perfectly as is and I don't think I'd be able to layer it over anything if I was to get the smaller size. I don't want to walk around looking like a red coat swallowed me up so I'm thinking it's going back.

Medusa, sleeker is what I want. Thanks for pointing that out. Glad to see your outfits again! Missed your style!
