Logo-averse; Kate Spade tote?

I had been on the lookout for some timefor a work- type tote in non- black -- maybe camel, taupe. Usual haunt is TJ Maxx.Like the mama bear, lots are too big , vs not big enough for folders, lunch, & general stuffage , or handle drop is not right.

At a local consignment shop, this was not even on my radar screen but I spied a taupe pebbled leather tote that is a great size with 2 large side zip pockets perfect for papers and such, roomy middle section. About 14" wide by 10.5 " high so is a tote but doesn't swamp me.

It is Kate Spade for, gasp , $210. On the side is discreet but definite gold stamped KS name & symbol. I always eschew names on bags and wish this were anonymous. Also hadn't planned on more than$100 or so since did not anticipate" designer" and I don't even know if this is a " reasonable" price-- could not find same on e- bay, for example. And don't know if KS has name on all or just some.

I'm torn re: the nice size & design for my purpose vs whether I will hate feeling like I'm an ad for KS and not fit my " philosophy" . I have pondered camouflaging it as well with a bit of something over the name , but that might botch and look worse. I have passed up many purses after turning them and finding name or logo, so I'm not sure why I'm noodling over this-- perhaps feel thwarted at being so close to a nice and useful to & from work bag.

I hear you about being a walking ad - we should be paid to carry their merchandise!
I love Michael Kors bags - but the big MK is a turn-off. I had a dear -out-of North America friend visiting and she wondered if MK stood for Mary Kate and Ashley - I have a little giggle every time I see the logo.

The thing about Kate Spade and MK is fabulous quality. I have a KS purse - and the logo is discretely engraved on the clasp of the bag - but I'm sure it varies from bag to bag I'd need to see a photo to be able to hazard a guess as to whether it's a good deal - isn't it fun finding a treasure?

I don't like visible logos. No matter how much I like the bag, I wouldn't use it. I know that about myself. I remove logos and tags all the time. But a metal plate is not easy to remove. That also sounds a bit steep to me for a consignment bag....other ladies ?

No one can tell you whether or not the name plate will be too OTT for you except you, but the vast majority of bags (even "no-name" bags) have SOME identification on their exterior. A new leather tote from KS commonly runs between $400 and $500, so on consignment less than half price for a bag in excellent condition is not unusual.

Overall, I say that if you have had trouble finding a functional bag, then I would take this one. Generally speaking, KS makes good quality bags that will last.

Thank you kindly for the feedback, which is helping me noodle along. The name is actually just good lettering on a small leather rectangle neat the top of the bag, which is why I've considered it maybe do-able.

I carry my logoed handbags with the logo towards my body. I only buy bags that have subtle branding.

I love Kate Spade bags and they are so well made. I think KS logos are on the less conspicuous side. I don't like bags with logos all over them or giant logos either. As Sylvie said, you can turn it around too.

I've only gotten my Kate Spade bags at those sample sales they have every so often on the website and the prices are usually 40-50% off. So mine were all around $200 or less new. But if it is a nice one, it seems like it would be a reasonable consignment price.

I do have a few KS bags, four to be exact. I don't find the logo too obvious, but that is a personal call. As far as prices go, I have not paid full price for any of them. I'd say , I got about 20% off on the most expensive one.

It is new? I think a similar tote cost me about that much on a sample sale, new.
