Loafers with socks

I would like to try a pair of chunky loafers this fall, but could i wear them *with* socks if I was wearing cropped/ankle pants? I really can't go sockless when the temps drop below 60.

If so, what color socks...match the pants or match the loafers? Nylon knee-highs are an option I suppose, but how about a tan/nude-colored trouser sock for more warmth?

I'm keen on either socks that blend in with the shoes and pants or a contrast for fun. I'd probably look for trouser socks with some sort of texture to them for a little bit of interest without being super eye catching. Now I need to go sock shopping!

Also, I have those loafers in the patent burgundy and I love them.

Thanks for the link, Traci. I guess there is no firm or fast rule, and it will come down to the pants' color and length. I'm loving all the different hem lengths but now I have to get the shoes sorted. It's both freeing and complicated

Are the loafers true to size? Do they run wide or narrow? I've seen reviews that say both.

I wear an 8.5 or 9 and for me the 9 is perfect. Theyre also breaking in very nicely. I wear them without socks. I think they might be too narrow if I tried to add anything but the thinnest sock.

I always picture argyle socks with loafers, but you can wear any type of socks you wish. I definitely think that loafers are intended to be worn with socks in the winter.

Personally I think nude knee highs (for the illusion of no socks) or else a fun contrast color or pattern (definitely intentional). I'm not keen on matching to either shoes or pants, to be honest, because it reminds me too much of men who don't know that their dress pants are not ppl....
