Loafers reborn to remix? What say you?

I got these loafers last year to achieve PPL with some pants that can only take a flat shoe, but I always felt they looked too --? --nerdy or frumpy. Not sure. They are uber-comfortable, just like pillows. But they languished in closet.

Had relegated them to become car shoes, rainy-dash shoes or something. So the other day I put them on for that, when wearing skirt and tights, and thought, wow, these look much better as skirt-flats with tights than they did with trousers.

I think it has something to do with the re-birth of loafer in general and especially being shown a lot with skirts, and that they are slim-fitting.

I realize these are not slipper flats, pointy or any particular trending style. I'm not sure I would like them with nude hose—I have a poison eye for the dark loafer/bare leg look on me—but with tights I think they work.

Am I on to something, or just wishfully thinking, or re-living the Weejun-70’s? These are so heavenly comfortable that re-mixing them with skirts would really increase my skirt-opportunities.

Keep in mind who this is coming from.....but I think they work nicely the way you have styled them with your skirt.

I love it with the tights - I think the texture of the loafer fights the frump factor - but I agree I don't think these would work for my eye with nude hose!!

I love the texture of the loafers but they seem at odds with the dressiness of this outfit. I don't think they're frumpy at all but they would play quite nicely with a jean/crisp button-down combination

I'm a little on the fence. I think they work, yes. So for all the reasons you cite--comfort, getting more mileage out of the shoes and more remix options for your skirts--go for it. The other side of the fence for me is that I really like your oxfords better for this purpose, and so these loafers wouldn't be my first pick. But sometimes second-pick outfits help keep things interesting.

I should add that I have a terrible time styling loafers myself, although I am drawn to the style. So my loafer issues are probably coloring my response to yours. I have a pair that pretty much languish in my closet. Yet I won't get rid of them because I still like the look of them, and I figure there will come a time when I will want to wear them. I did manage to talk myself down from the ledge of buying another pair this year, though!

I am hearing.
The outfit shown was random for the photo, and in theory I could target them for my most casualized/ sporty -type skirt outfit.
Or keep them at work for foot- fatigue bailout...
Not sure myself. It does help to keep in mind the level of comfort I'd like to have in footwear when possible. I mean, there's comfortable, and then there's COMFORTABLE.

I think they work because of the color match with the tights. Who knew loafers could be made to be leg-lengthening?

Hmm, you know I love black shoes but somehow the combo of black and that texture seems a bit staid to me (not frumpy exactly, just boring). Personally I'd be tempted to turn them metallic.

I love those shoes and have been searching for a pair like that in cognac...aren't those the Neda loafer by Sesto Meucci? They look like a quality, classic shoe. You do not look frumpy...but my taste is pretty traditional.

I think they'd look great with some casual skirt/sweater/leggings ensembles.

I think the loafers look good with the outfit. As long as you don't wear them with a skirt that's any longer...this length or just a tad shorter is fine IMO.

Those are useful observations. I can see how the shorter skirt length--especially as opposed to a midi-style--and a sporty-casual vibe work to help defrumpify them if possible. I'm not just all-out determined to use them, but I will experiment a bit so that perhap wearing them occasionally with the outfits leaning most in that direction might be fun (in the sense that the shoes feel like you could stride across the world).

Then sometimes when I actually wear something a few times, I can tell, is it worth keeping for this purpose or is it too much of a stretch?
