My dd is turning 9 next week and we decided on a slumber party for her birthday celebration.

I was thinking simply a girlie movie and pizza... she on the other hand told me that there are huge plans in place... there will apparently be an extreme pillow fight, painting of nails, cupcake and cookie decorating, a midnight feast, movies and popcorn, singing competitions.

I was also very amused to discover that her 11 year old brother has planned to sleep out for the night. He does not intend to be anywhere near the girlie slumber party.

Ah yes, I know this well! The good news? At this age, they like to do these things themselves. They plan the (often strangely executed) plans and put them into action. And they're really, really loud!

How fun! My DD recently turned 9 and it is such a fun age. I agree that they will do most of these "events" themselves, and their planning almost always outlasts them (they fall asleep at some point). And I want to add that I don't blame her brother, either! My boys wouldn't want to be anywhere near an event like that!

Takes you back, does it not? We had endless Valley Girl slumber parties. Just played that movie again and again and again. As No Cal girls, we thought it was a hilarious sendup of So Cal. Lol.

This brings back LOTS of memories. How fun.

I'll add that there will be lots of talk about boys and crushes. Or maybe that happened when I was older??? The memories are fading as I reach 44.

Oh, how fun! I would buy a bunch of crazy colored nail polishes for them to use. Then each girl can pick one or two to take home as a party favor.

Aww how fun. I (vaguely) remember sleepovers as a pre/teen.

I look forward to my own daughter (and son) to host sleepovers. I still have a few years to go!

Too funny!
When my DD turned 8 last fall we had a dance-themed party at home and invited about 15 girls all from the same school/daycare. I noticed two different brothers who came with their parents to drop off, one older one younger, were actually craning their necks trying to get a look at what was going on inside - almost every girl they knew being in there I guess!
