Lipstick & booties - update

Lipstick: I adore MAC lipstick and the gorgeous saturated colors they carry and the staying power is amazing...BUT...they dry out my lips like I've just gone for a 20 mile hike in the desert. Even if I put on lip balm first. So my new fall dark plum/burgundy color is Lise Watier. This is the first time I've tried that brand and I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it! The staying power is just about as good as MAC, the color nice and saturated and rich, but best of all - actually moisturizes my lips and no more drying out.

Booties: Today is the first wearing of my Ara booties and I have done a whack of running up and down to the wards today, as well as across the street three times to our Purchasing Department and let me tell you...these are ALL DAY booties! Comfort is 11 out of 10. I think it was Vix who first suggested these to me so thank you! Will be looking to this brand again in the future.

Yay!! So glad the Aras are hits for you. Fabulous news. I will be looking into them as well!

Also, I wear Lise Watier, too. There's one line of theirs that is positively moisturizing. I wear it all the time and love it. So we are lipstick twins as well as clothing and haircut twins!

I totally agree with your MAC lipstick thoughts. Everyone else I know loves them, but it does a number on my mouth. I really did think everyone's lipstick was that way until I started trying out brands. Good for you for finding one that works!

I hear you on the *desert* lips feeling!! I had never invested in good quality (moisturizing-wise) lipstick until I realized the damage they were doing to my lips (pigmentation and extremely chapped lips). I didn't know lipsticks could dry your lips? (How dumb could I be?!)

For now I love two of my lipsticks (Maybelline Color Sensation Moisturizing Lipstick Summer Sunset and Lipstick Queen Jean Queen) to death and they don't dry my lips. For maybelline's price point the lipstick is super moisturizing, has incredible staying power AND super pigmentation! Love it! Lipstick Queen is a new find and the rave reviews sold me into buying it. And I don't regret!

Finding that right lipstick makes you feel over the top. Isn't it?! And I am very glad your booties are comfortable. I just culled my faux leather booties because they were killing my feet. The last time I wore it I almost had muscle spasms. Eeks! Lessons learnt The importance of good footwear can never be under estimated. Thanks for recommending them

This is such great feedback, from head to toe, Shannon. That's outstanding news on daily mileage you can put on the booties. I've never heard of Lise Watier lipstick. Is this a Canadian brand? It can be frustrating to have lipstick this is drying and then when you want to apply more color, the poor little lips can look even worse as they're dried out WITH lip color.

As Neel said, I found a low-budget one by Revlon called Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain lipstick and they are chubby pencils that look like crayons, which makes almost fun to use. They are moisturizing and the color is long-lasting.

Now, off to search for your lipstick brand.

I'm glad you've found your product.

Just today I had an "aha! moment" about lip-stuff in general: lipsticks are no longer my thing. Regardless of the moisturising qualities, or lack of, I actually am lip-gloss girl.

Regarding Aras, I can vouch for their comfort and quality too, but my shoes (flat Mary Janes) overstretched so much that it appears I could have easily size down next time I buy from the brand.

Sounds like you can put a Lise Watier lipstick on everybody's Christmas gift list! I love her stuff, and her face creams are to die for! There is a new one with Labrador tea extract that is so rich - it's luxurious.

It's kind of validating that some of you have also found MAC lipstick so drying. And thanks for telling me about your favorites -might have to check some of those out.

Ornella - good for you on knowing you prefer gloss. I do actually like MAC Lipglass when I feel like wearing gloss.

Nicole - I'm definitely going to check out more of Lise Watier's line. Thanks for the tips.

I am testing the hypothesis that I'm not a lipstick girl either, but a tinted lip balm girl. My current favorite is NYC Applelicious glossy lip balm, available in drugstores. The Apple Blossom and Big Apple Red are surprisingly lovely pink and soft red tints, and I actually don't mind the taste--it's more tart than apple-y, like a Granny Smith.

Yay for comfy booties, too.

Great post Shannon! I had the same feeling about mac lipstick, especially in winter. I will have to try the Lise Watier. Good to hear about the bootie recommendation too.

I bought a few things from Watier while in BC on vacation a couple years back - seems like a great line. I like tinted lip balms the majority of the time. Not that lasting though. Another moisturizing lipstick is Revlon Lip Butter.
