Linen for How Long?

The high temperature in the DC area will be consistently below 80 degrees for the next couple of weeks .. I have finally conceded that summer is over:(

So ... I started my major project of switching out my warm weather clothes for fall/winter clothes. My question is (and I grapple with this every fall) Should I put away all of my linen? The white linen and white shoes will be stored away no questions. But what about the brightly colored and dark linen? Will it look strange to wear linen when the temps drop?

How do you all handle this? Any advice will be appreciated!

I run cold, and for me, below 80 means that I will not be warm enough in linen. But it is still hot in Atlanta, and I've been wearing the heck out of both pairs of my black linen shorts. I think it's a nice transition.

I'm in Charlottesville, just south of you ... I'm rearranging my closet for fall this afternoon (this just means putting shorts, sundresses, and summer tops in the hard-to-access part where heavy stuff has been all summer).

I'm putting away woven linen for the year, but linen tees get worn all year. I'm not too bothered about seasonal confusion, but linen looks weird to me once the leaves start to turn. If I had any white closed-toe shoes I'd wear them all year though!

I used to wear dark colored linen through October when I lived in Houston. Then it started to cool off.

Keeping warm is another matter and regarding that matter you know best. In terms of seasons, for me personally, linen is summer fabric and looks best under the very bright sunlight. That seems to enhance its crispness, which I love.

Colder days, more clouds and generally greyer skies make me see linen as wrinkly, high maintenance and generally unpolished. So, I store it away as soon as it's no longer summer enough to wear it.

In short, it really is all about under what kind of light I see it and what outside temperature is when I wear it, but that was massive realisation for me personally.

I wore a linen sweater in March in the Sierra Nevadas and in November in FL. Seemed appropriate to me in both situations.

In Atlanta, I will continue to wear linen blouses and sweaters for several more weeks. I do put away the light colors of linen, but taupe, mushroom, brown, black, grey feel perfectly suited to warm Fall.

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful input. You all have helped me to resolve dilemma.
I think what I'll do is to put away all my linen with the exception of my black, navy and gray pieces. I'll probably wear them thru October. But If it does get hot again, I'll rely on my cottons and rayon pieces. Thanks again.
