Lilac appears in Southern Hemisphere....

I mentioned last week I thought it would be spring before we saw lilac appear here. In the weekend I saw the first photo appear on my facebook feed, from a local NZ bag designer Helen Miller.

Today I photographed the current Country Road (mainstream Australian retailer) drop - their lilac range.

I don't think we are running a full season behind anymore, it is almost concurrent!!

I am pleased that there is variety in colour offerings but I don't think I will go down the lilac route - it might work on me but there are other colours I am much more drawn to (pastels in general are hard for me although I do have small amounts of blush).

But I do think the bag is gorgeous- I am toying with getting one like this in either blush or bone or navy or mustard or black - I cannot decide at all!! https://www.helenmiller.co.nz/ She mostly makes on order but carries some in stock.

I saw the Country Road edit and thought exactly the same thing!

The bag is beautiful, especially with the lining.

I am not sure if I am going to go lilac either. If I did, it would have to be a deeper (more purple version) than the Country Road stuff. The lavender versions really wash me out. But I would consider it as part of a print.

It is quite icy and cool isn't it - nice with whites and grey and silver - and it would wash me out too. I could see lilac on you with olive but I agree deeper would be better. Lilac is probably all over Zara already but I am not on their email list.

Country Road are driving me crazy with the volume of emails at the moment - it is often more than once a day.

Sal, I love the lilac bag, the lining is so pretty. I would love to buy a lilac knit but most colours are too pale even for me. I may have to see the CR ones in person. Like you, I get annoyed with too many emails from retailers.

I love the bag. It’s a great colour to off set against whites and silvers as you say.

Ive found the ‘unsubscribe’ button useful at the top left of emails like those you are receiving- I hadn’t realised it was there but felt I was being hounded by BR and managed to unsubscribe easily

What an amazing lining! And the other choices offered on the website are great as well. I love that bag and the fact that you can choose both the color of the bag itself and the pattern of its lining.

For anyone in Australia / NZ that wants a lilac knit - this one from Esprit is nice. I saw it and was tempted. The lilac is not too washed out and it was a wool / cashmere mix.

fun. i really like lilac with maroon/oxblood or lilac and a dusty plum as color combos. especially going into winter.

I think i would choose the black or the cement colour for you (I didn’t see bone-maybe that’s the same thing as cement?)

It really depends on your footwear and am assuming you’d want to start using it straight away, so that means fall/winter colours, ergo black/cement.

I LOVE the forest green though!! It is sold out.

I do plan to get one of the Helen Miller bags. I might go for a bigger one, still deciding. They are not cheap of course:)

My current day bag wardrobe is a bone/cement (worn) soft bag, a cognac tote (also worn) and a caramel/toffee cross body (in good condition). I am much better set up for evening clutches. I was thinking navy to go with the navy boots, but then this does not work in some instances, whereas cement or bone work with pretty much everything. And of course mustard or blush are a fun contrast. I will probably ask for one for my June birthday:!!

There is a case to be made for no more clothes but only bags for me.

Yesterday afternoon I wrote

Today I called in to a Hospice Charity Shop and look what I came home with for $8.00.

An experiment with lilac.

That's a quick turnaround isn't it - am I a hypocrite/easily influenced/trendsetter?

I plan to wear it with my cream and grey wool coat, or with black and blush, or with denim and black.

You have to laugh... (and I note the 100% acrylic sign is showing too)

But I'm with Brooklyn (surprise! ;-)) -- I can do a deeper more saturated version, but lilac and lavender wash me out terribly.

ETA: Just saw the scarf! Love! Great score.

At that price, what a find! A great way to get onto the lilac trend.

I have recently bought a navy bag and like it because it is great with denim and blues. However, on a whim I bought a lilac bag and it is the one bag in my collection that people stop me on the street to tell me how much they love it. Surprisingly, it goes with a lot of outfits. My vote is go with the bag that you like the most.

Bijou - I know a fun easy way to try it out. And it tones really nicely with my pink beanie and will look good under a cream and grey coat that needs a scarf. Yes I will take a good look at my wardrobe and work out the colour - as you say you can always make it work. Maybe I will end up with lilac after all - I can't make absolute statements can I?

Smittie - too kind, that must be a record flip though. The quality feels fine actually - I wore it around the house yesterday.

Janet - my new ombre scarf has a warm undertone and a bit of depth. I think my lilac could be more like the first picture below - I see Brooklyn and yourself looking stunning in no 4. I could wear 2 but I think 3 would wash me out. I don't like 2 as much though - I like 1 and 4.
