Bad idea: metal buttons that cut thread
Good idea: metal buttons that have a smooth plastic shank that won't cut thread
As you can tell, I'm tired of replacing buttons or sewing them back on!
Bad idea: facings that are not sewn down.
Good idea: Sew the facings down so garment looks better and is easier to press.
My mother, who was a seamstress, always sewed the facings down. (She also hated metal buttons.) I think garment manufacturers look for the cheapest way to crank out the clothes so they can maximize profits.
