Has anyone seen the movie? I loved it. I've seen the West End Production many times, but the movie was even better because it was even *more* miserable.

If Anne Hathaway does not win Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars this year, I am boycotting the Oscars.

Angie, we went as a family and saw this the day after Christmas and LOVED it! Then we all went the next day and saw The Hobbit. The following day, DD and I went to see Anna Karenina. I don't know what Hollywood would do without us! You would think we would be movied-out, but we are now revisiting The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I agree that Anne Hathaway deserves an Oscar for her performance and would also like to see it nominated for Best Picture. What a great season for movies!

My family went on Friday and we all enjoyed it. My daughter was quite enthralled. Hubs had read some very lukewarm to negative reviews before we went and hesitated to go on that basis. But I think he ended up liking it best of all.

I must admit that I laughed pretty hard at Anthony Lane's (unfavourable) review afterwards, too -- he can be so accurately cutting. But for me, the review is sort of its own separate form of entertainment that doesn't necessarily interfere with my enjoyment of the show.

Debora, you need to add Life of Pi to your list. We've not yet seen Les Miserables but have watched the PBS special of it many times and also saw the show in London. I'm glad it's good and can't wait to see it.

Joy, We did see Life of Pi when the kids were home for Thanksgiving! I had read the book years ago and was thrilled with the film. Such beautiful cinematography. We also saw Lincoln when we were in NYC earlier in November - another great movie. It's funny, we probably saw all of two movies in 2011, but there were so many I wanted to see this season. Another favorite was Moonrise Kingdom, one of the most delightful films I've seen in years.

Suz, I just looked up Anthony Lane's review - so funny! Glad it didn't deter you from going.

I love Ann Hathaway (and her short hair too) but have yet to see the movie. We always wait until the hype goes down before we see a blockbuster. I am so looking forward to it.

Moonrise Kingdom was brilliant.

Suz, you are so right about reviews! Greg ended up liking the movie too - and it's soooooooo not his thing.

My 16 year old Dd and 2 of her friends went Friday night. Even though it was a mature theme, they raved about it.

I saw it years ago as a stage production and didn't love it, maybe I should re-visit it

I may need to arrange a girls night to see this, Ben is not keen and at 6'3" can barely squeeze into the seats of our vintage (read antiquated) cinema.

I went and saw it on Sunday and LOVED it. I've never been able to see it on stage. My BF has made several jokes that at the end of it all he could hear were all of the ladies in the theater, including me, sniffling and trying not to cry.

Am keen to see it. I saw an amateur production years ago, but have never made it through the book. My daughter sang "castle on a cloud" at her school talent show this last year, but I don't think most of the audience and possibly even the judges had heard it.

My DD went to the premier showing, and then we went as a family to see it the very next day. She went yet a 3rd time with a friend.

Excellent move, IMO. Loved both the acting and the singing. Anne Hathaway's performance was nothing short of superb. Thankfully, I didn't wear makeup because I figured I might cry at some point. I highly recommend it.

I really want to see this, but what's holding me back? The crying. Oh, the crying. I suspect it's one of those "ugly cry" movies. Too embarrassed to do that in public again, not after "Marley and Me."

My FAVOURITE actors are Aussie and British:

Cate Blanchett (she walks on water), Russel Crowe, Nicole Kidman (Moulin Rouge), Naomi Watts, Christian Bale, Daniel Craig, Emily Blunt, Helen Mirren and Kate Winslet.

And there's Tom Cruise too - but he's American.

We finally saw this show yesterday and absolutely loved it. I'm in total agreement that Anne Hathaway had better get an Oscar. Her performance was unforgettable.
To anyone who hasn't seen this yet, go! It's worth seeing on the big screen so don't wait to rent it. It's uplifting; not depressing.
