K/R Leopard Rollies (Update: More Pics)

Two things I wanted to add to my wardrobe this fall were a small dose of animal print, and a replacement for my beloved gold-toe booties (in Finds), which added a bit of unexpected edge to my wardrobe until they wore out.

I found these half-leopard/half-black Rollies at Nordstrom, and think they might tick both boxes. What do you guys think?

My hesitations are that they fall in a weird zone of casualness with the white soles, and I don't think the shape/height is as versatile as my old boots. They're great with jeans, but don't work as well with my dresses or cropped pants, though this could be a getting-used-to-it thing. On the other hand... I wear a lot of jeans in the winter, so maybe that's not even an issue.

Those are super cute! I admit they probably won't work with skirts and dresses, but they look great with your jeans.

They look great- do you find them comfy? I can see these working with your closet - they are different to your tipped boots and may fill a different role. Do you have other boots that work with skirts and dresses?

I know what you mean about the white soles,l prefer darker soles myself but they are nice looking boots.

I see what you mean when compared to your old favorites, these are a different animal. The leopard Rollie's are fun. If you still need higher boots, could you afford both? Would the Rollie's be right for California?

They are really cute but I agree that they probably are not as versatile as your old boots. That being said, I would probably keep them to wear with Jeans and add interest to my outfits. I have a hard time saying no to cute shoes.

I think the reason your old boots work with skirts is that you have fully embraced the aesthetic of style juxtaposition. In that they DON'T really "go together", you like them for the contrast. I like it in principle, but when I try it myself it just feels like I'm TTH.

On the other hand, I would wear those leopard booties with skirts in a heartbeat. I would do it with a slim fit on the lower body, like a pencil or tube skirt or a sheath dress. Think 30's or 50's or early 60's career woman, with the booties drawing the eye to the allure of a shapely calf, rather than whatever era the Doc Martins and full skirt became the silhouette of choice (I think I was offline having babies).

I like them! Yes i agree, try them with a tube skirt, but if they're best with jeans that's fine too. Do you have other boots you like with your skirts?

L’Abeille, yours was a really interesting observation, and you’re probably right. I found where these boots hit on my ankle to be rather stumpifying against my bare legs, though, and I usually have a pretty high tolerance for that.

I don’t own or wear any tube skirts (they are too bombshell on my body shape for my preference) so I don’t think that look will work for me.

I’m heading out to California for the weekend early tomorrow, but I’ll try some more outfits when I get back.

Hmm, I love a fun shoe but I have to say not a huge fan of these. I feel like they need a more defined shape- a pointier toe, a bigger heel or sole, or something. But, one nice thing about them is the dark front will blend right into a dark column of color.

I am not sure Jenn. I like the 2 tone effect very much but not so much the white sole. I feel like the white sole takes them too much into casual/athleisure territory. These things are personal of course.

eta: it would be good if you could post whole outfit photos for more context. I can see why you like them.

I'm with Brooklyn, I am not sure either. Rollies have become really big here in NZ, I think they may be Australian? With many pairs to choose from in the last several years, in my fave shoe shop locally, I've still not bought a pair. Even though I've liked many of the uppers a lot and the prices are reasonable. I think they seem too casual for my work style but not soft enough for weekend running around. I wonder if these don't quite look like you.
But you know your style much better than I do, so I think trying to style them with your outfits a good plan. They're likely great for California weather.

I’m back from CA and still debating on these shoes. The fact that I chose not to immediately put them on and wear them on my trip points to a “no,” but I’m wondering if I’m not just resisting a slightly new-to-me style. I don’t want to be stuck in a rut, but I also don’t want to purchase something that is never going to work for me. Argh! I’m not usually this indecisive!

Anyway, here they are with a floral dress. Wearing dark tights helps quite a bit, and the pattern mix is kind of fun.

I'm torn, too -- if you could afford 2 pair, maybe? The issue I see is that these are not a replacement for the others in that they are less versatile and much more casual. I love animal print for you, though. I do prefer them with jeans for sure.

I also should note that the Born boots aren't available anymore, so a direct replacement isn't possible.

I know the feeling when something beloved is no longer an option! I think that "combat" style is extremely versatile in a way that this type of bootie isn't, quite -- but I also think these could be really good for your new climate and they definitely work with denim.

Thanks, The Cat. I am leaning towards keeping these and taking the Borns to the cobbler to see if they can be salvaged for another year or two.

I don't live in a place with particularly easy shoe repair access (it seems like in Seattle there were cobblers everywhere!), but I have a few pairs that could use re-heeling, so I think it'll be worth the drive if I do it all at once.

I really like them with the jeans but not so much with the dress. I am nuts about boots with dresses but because of the white sole these seem more like sneakers to me. Not sophisticated enough for the dress. I think it depends on whether you like the whole sneakers with dress look - because it’s going in that direction. I know some people love that look.

I also think fab boots are not hard to find (even more so in the US) and if you are in doubt you should wait.
