Leggings as pants

If you saw this woman on the street how would you feel about the leggings as pants? I am not advocating the look in general, but this particular instance works for me. I wouldn't wear this outfit myself, but I think she looks great.

She looks fine to me :), I think thicker fabric is a key here (she has a figure to pull that look perfectly well, too).

She does look great, and does leggings are pretty thick. I would personally wear it if top/sweater were 5 " longer.

She does! But if you changed the outfit subtly - made the leggings less thick, since these look like they could be a pretty sustantial ponte knit, or made the top a few inches shorter - or substituted a woman with more hips in the same outfit that the model is wearing in this photo - I think that would cross the line for me to the point where the leggings were no longer appropriate without a longer top.
There's a fine line somewhere, but it's becoming blurry to me.

I will admit to wearing an outfit similar to that (slightly longer top that JUST covers my tush).

I'm about her build and I think it worked fine

hmmmm...this toes the line for me. my initial thought is she needs to put on some clothes. it doesnt immediately look ok. if any factor deviated slightly, this would be a 'NO' for me. this could still be adjusting my eye to this look though...and the trend marches bravely forward without my approval, LOL.

ETA: this is definitely my hang up with leggings personally bc I just imagined that she was wearing dark denim skinnies and don't think I'd bat an eye at that look.

Cover the bum and the front bits. That's all I ask. I wear tops that are short by YLF standards, but they always cover the good china. This is a little short for me since I am probably curvier than her and that top would be riding up on me, but it works just fine on her.

i think it looks fine! i would wear leggings as pants as long as they're not emphasizing any dimples i don't want emphasized, and as long as there's no camel toe! I do have several pairs of pants that are fairly legging-like at the top but then flare out. They are a thicker fabric and I've never felt uncomfortable wearing them with a short top. I think thicker fabric is definitely key, obviously you wouldn't want to wear a slightly sheer legging this way.

I think it works for her figure. I really don't see any problem with using leggings as pants as long as you cover the " front bits" and "bum", like Maya said.

It's interesting to read everyone's responses. I guess she is walking the line, so not everyone is going to like it. I agree with those who said the thick material is key.

SHE looks great, but she would look great in a potato sack. I still think she'd look better in that particular outfit with jeans i.e. actual pants.

I wondered the same thing Angie said. Are these leggings or pants?
I also echo what Kari said. If we are indeed talking thick leggings, just because she can get away with it doesn't mean we can all run out and copy it.

I think she's wearing ponte knit pants. If they ARE leggings, then her top should be a TAD longer. As in long enough to cover her derriere.

Maybe they are Pontes. I guess since there are no visible pockets it looked like leggings to me, but the material is clearly substantial, so maybe they are really Ponte knit pants. That resolve my confusions. I am also thinking that the substantialness of her shirt helps somehow too. It looks like a knit with some weight as opposed to a t-shirt.

I would have to see the rear view to be certain.

But if ponte knit pants can be mistaken for leggings in photographs I will not be wearing them as pants.

I also think the cropped boxy jacket aids this look.
