Leave this behind in FL when I move home?

I have a growing list of items that work for me in the heat, but don't particularly feel like me style wise. As of now, I'm thinking I'll wear them through this summer and then come fall when we move home, leave them behind at the consignment shop.
I know I've said this before, but I think this might be our last FL trip. Or if not last, I'll be way closer to 50 when we come back, and my hot weather style will have shifted by then. Heck, it's shifting now, with realizing some jersey dresses don't play nice like they used to on my aging physique.
All that to say - do you think my style is moving on from this? Should I keep it for Sunday brunch, etc, or just leave it in FL at summer's end? It takes up very little room and is super light, since it's silk. But it seems more lady like, almost verging on sweet, to me.

If you'd posted pic #2 anonymously, I would never have guessed that it came from your closet. Cute dress, but it just doesn't seem to fit your style vibe.

I don't think it "looks like something I would wear to a rock concert" which I think is your style goal. As such, I would leave it behind.

As you and others have mentioned before, hot weather dressing in sync with our own styles seems the most challenging. If you have enough other pieces that you would choose over this, I vote pass it on. (But only because of stylistic concerns. It looks good.) If not, I vote keep as place-holder because I find silk very comfortable in the heat.

I don't think it would be any great loss, but I do think I would actually like it better over leggings or even jeans. So I think it has cooler weather potential - if you want it to.

You all confirmed my suspicions. And Vildy - YES! You nailed it. Thistle, I'll have to remember to repeat that to myself when I'm in doubt. But, indeed hot weather wear isn't always in step with our innate style either. Jules, that's a fine styling idea, except I already have plenty of tunic/dresses in that category. thanks though!
A note to myself, this was one of those eBay buys about 3 years ago. I had a run of dresses that weren't quite right, but I bought 'em anyway. In looking back, it was the print on this one that drew me in. I'd just love if this were a halter banded bottom top in this instead of a lady like dress. Ooh, wonder if I could transform it??? Damn, I wish I knew how to sew!

Mo - if you don't feel good in it don't keep. But I'd be interested...what happens if you put cropped leggings and a black moto over it? I think you could toughen it up but it's not worth it if you don't love it!! Always something better in the offing!

I had very similar things in my closet and over the last two summers I've purged virtually all of them without regret. I think I bought them because I'd see friends or others in them and think that's what I "should" wear. No more. I feel your pain on hot weather style, but I'm determined this year to work harder to make it "me" and not just cave b/c I'm too sweaty! Good luck with the transformation!

I say leave behind if you really don't love it. Or else take it to a tailor (is that possible where you live?) to see if he can do something. If the tailor is out of town, maybe you could send him to your blog so he could see the garment and maybe give you an answer over the phone?

Cut off the sleeves? Great move!

I think once it serves you through the summer you'll have other dresses that will take you forward. My great Aunt Lucille said, as we carried her wringer washer to the curb in 1995, "It don't owe me a thing." She died at 96, with the tags still on her new stackable unit, having enjoyed them for about 10 years. Sometimes, when I pass on a possession that has given its all, I say, "It don't owe me a thing," and release it freely.

P.S. A good loose sheath or sack dress is a good look for you and works well in the heat.

Ha! Regarding 50, I have no doubt it'll be fine, but I'm sure I won't want to wear the same dress I bought when I had just turned 40
My BF is 53 and fitter than most 20 somethings. I know it's not a sentence of fragility and frump!!
