Is there any of you 40+ lady's going to be rocking leather pants / leggings this fall!!
I recently bought a pair of leggings from h&m and would like to know ways to style them.
How do you style yours?
Do you think a woman over 40 should wear leather bottoms? yay or nay

Annagybe, Alaskagirl and Rae(Raisin) all do. I hope to join in, with leather panel pants/leggings first thing on my 2014 shopping list. (I'm 43, Anna's 40, and Una's 45?)

I like leather pants worn with a big chunky sweater...something that downplays the sexy factor a little, and shows off the contrasting textures.

I think they're fine! Like Amy said, the key to work-appropriate leather (for all ages) is to tone down the sexy.

Also, though it took me a long time to see the appeal, I love these loose pleated leather trousers:

At first I was not a fan but somehow they spoke to this need to add "a little edge" to my classic, sophisticated side. I dipped my toe in by trying a pair of ponte pants with an inset of "leather" on the outside part below the knee (the tuxedo stripe ones looked awful on me) and I've been turning to them over and over. I wear with a longer cardigan or topper and wear with low heeled boots to downplay. I may go "whole hog" soon.

I think if they reflect your personal style anyone at any age can wear them.

Yes, as long as they are not tight or too short. I'm over 60 and have a black leather pencil skirt and leather pants in black and brown leather.
Much depends on keeping the styling appropriate.

I am almost 50 and would wear the right leather pants, no prob, if that were my thing. It depends totally on your figure how you style these!

I've been wearing them for over four years. I wore them in my first WIW on here, and I got a Killer rating.

Yes, I think leather bottoms are great for women over 40, provided they are styled right (and fit right). You want to look chic with a slight hard rock edge, not trashy. See Anna's outfits if you want to see it done right.

Also, I cannot let this one go…the plural of "lady" is "ladies". I'm sorry. I probably need a 12-step program for uncontrollable addiction to editing.

I would try them out if I could afford them (55). The real leather ones I like are $500-1000. I get too hot in the pleather types. I would make sure they aren't too tight and would style them with longer tops that cover my rear.

I am not 40 but I do agree with Cocolion that they should fit well (which I have found to be a very tall order!) Else they just look cheap! The one that I like is 250$ ..... Wayyyyyy over my budget

Thank you all for your great feed back & WOW Alaskagirl you do look fab in yours, I loved the way you styled them. I think im going to go with ankle booties with a heel and a chunky knit to see how it goes then maybe a bit more dressed up for night out.

I am 50 and wear both stretch leather leggings and looser leather trousers. I am a size 6/8 (US size 0-4?) though. I don't think I would wear anything shiny or leather-like were I closer to average size, but I say three cheers for any such person who has the confidence to do so! No doubt many think older women should not wear this if that, but it often seems terribly arbitrary to me, and I think it is good to think critically about whether or not there is actually any merit in a given proscription, and to violate those without merit if it suits us.

Yes yes yes and again: yes. Leather pants and skirts. They are warm, comfortable, and now they are not just biker style anymore. They can actually be very elegant. Growing up in a cold weather climate, I have always seen them as ultra chic. Now at 45 I am not close to stop wearing them, and I think I will wear them until I die. I think they can be especially flattering on a 40+ bod. Example of what I mean below.

I am 48 and would wear them if I could find the magical fit that works on my, um, muscular thighs.

I do have two leather or faux-leather paneled skirts, and I love them. I also have a couple of pairs of coated jeans, which look a lot like leather.

Agreed that it's all in the fit and the styling!

Well 60+ group here too and I wear an aubergine coloured Danier leather pencil skirt. Never considered leather pants but maybe there's a pair out there for me. Never say never ...

Absolutely yes. Age is just a number and leather looks good on everybody. I style my black leather leggings with boots, a big black jumper and a large bag, a fake fur gilet is always a good addition with this combination on colder days.

I turned 51 a few weeks ago. I bought a pair of leather pants and debated for weeks before wearing them out for a birthday dinner with a friend.
