So I placed my order with Shopbop and couldn't figure out why they charged me sales tax. Turns out they're owned by Amazon. Amazon is everywhere, go figure.

No kidding!

But why does Amazon charge you sales tax? I'll have to re-check, but I don't recall being taxed on my purchases (and they are legion!).

Certain states do charge sales tax, wherever you buy from....Im lucky, I guess...in Minnesota we are one of the few states where there is *no* sales tax on clothing! Even when you buy online from different sources.

I had no idea about Shopbop being acquired!
They are one of my favorite online sites. Actually, they started as Bop, a bricks and mortar store in downtown Madison, WI (where I grew up). It was a proud day when we got a store as hip and fashionable as Bop--I remember walking in one day in college and seeing Louis Vuitton purses and gasping aloud! And then they created shopbop.com which has about 1000 times the inventory of Bop. I've had nothing but excellent customer service over the years. I sure hope the amazon purchase doesn't change that!!

Interesting. I hope that doesn't mean they'll start charging for international shipping like amazon does. I have only bought from shopbop once but found the free shipping over $100 an amazing feature. If they ended up with the range of products that amazon has still with free shipping I'd be in shopping heaven!!!
