LE order arrived - some pics and a few K/Rs

First, please excuse the way I look and the unstyled pictures!

#1-3 Puffer
It's too big on top but sizing down wouldn't work because the hips just fit in this size. Otherwise gorgeous! Will have to go back.

#4-6 Non-down coat
Not as warm as the other one, but only a third of the price of the puffer coat. This one is too big, but I'm thinking about trying it one size down in navy. There's still a bit room in the hips, so the smaller size could work. This seems like a good coat for cold rainy weather. Not exactly the perfect winter coat for the coldest days, but it could be a good buy anyway, especially at this price point. What do you think? Should I try the smaller size? Or is it too gearish?

#7/8 Flannel shirt
Love the color of this shirt. The fit is great, the only thing is that it's a bit tight in the hips. If I keep it I would add some vents in the side to solve that fit problem, like I did with my other flannel shirt.

#9-11 Full plaid skirt
The skirt sits nicely on my hips and I love the fabric, drape and pattern. And it's wine colored! I'd shorten it to knee length. Sorry for the badly pinned up look in #11, it's just too much fabric for a few pins.

#12-14 Straight/A-line plaid skirt
The green and navy is just gorgeous and the fit is perfect. I'd shorten it to just under the knees (petite midi). I'm almost sure I'll keep this one, especially because it was marked down a lot and not expensive and fits great for a slim skirt. But do I need two plaid skirts?

The puffer--hmm, from the front and side it seems fine. It's only from the back where there is clearly extra material above your waist, but even so I am not sure that's so bad, just not perfect.

The second coat--not enough shape, especially for the long length--it seems overwhelming.

Shirt--great color! Add the vents and you are set.

Skirt 1--I love the fabric and the idea of shortening it, as long as you feel confident it won't be too voluminous when shortened. (It's hard to tell from the photos.)

Skirt 2--I like the straighter shape of this one, but the colors of the other one for you. I would only keep one unless you are sure you will wear both happily.

These colors are great on you. I think the plaid skirts are beautiful & flattering. I could see them with anything from leather jackets & boots to fisherman's sweaters or even turtlenecks. I do prefer the shorter lengths you've posted.

I really like the purple puffer on you, so I'm sorry it's going back. The maroon coat is big and you say you are sizing down in Navy (which is a good color too) but do they have the maroon in smaller size? It is really a good color on you.

I think non-down coat is worth trying in navy.
Love the colour of the flannel shirt on you - and if you have the skills (very envious) to add in thos side vents then it will be perfect.
Plaid skirts are fab - and shortened will be awesome. So much potential for both of them. Do you need both? Well I would consider what I would wear on top - and if I would be reaching for my "favourite" plaid skirt and letting the other linger in the closet. Even if it is a great price - it's not a deal if it sits in the closet.

Thanks Scarlet! I agree about the puffer. It isn't bad, but not perfect. But this one was quite expensive, so I don't think I'll keep it. You're right about the other coat of course, do you think a smaller size would be as problematic? I don't think the first skirt would have too much volume, it seems similar to my black skirt and it falls nicely. It only looks a bit strange because of the pinned up fabric. I'm not sure if I really need both skirts and would end up wearing them equally. But the straight one is such a great fit I'd have a hard time sending it back. I rarely find non-full skirts that fit so well that they need no alteration in the waist. Maybe I should just keep both.

Oh, I am really loopy lately--I just saw you would size down on that second coat. I think my sister might have that one, actually. Is it water resistant and wool-lined? She really likes hers for errands, walking dogs, and bad weather. It's probably pretty warm if you aren't standing outside in -10 to -20 for long periods of time. Do you have something you can wear for now until you find the one you really want?

Thanks JenA! I love the styling ideas you mentioned for the skirts. I agree about the length, I shorten almost all my skirts because I'm borderline petite and I'm often forced to shop regular sizes. They also have the maroon coat in the smaller size, I'm just not sure if navy wouldn't be more versatile.

Thanks Merwoman! I'm going to do a quick look for tops to go with the skirts to see if they work equally well. You're right of course, it isn't wort keeping if it doesn't get worn.

Scarlet, it's waterproof and partly lined with fleece. It has some poly lining. I agree that this would be a great coat for going for walks in bad weather, this looks like something you wouldn't worry about when it gets dirty. One of the reviews also said you can just wash it in the washing machine without a problem. I still have my black coat I wore the last two winters when I didn't find a replacement. It really doesn't look good anymore, but it keeps me warm.

Hm, the puffer looks better than the other coat to me, but that may just be the size issue. Both skirts look great! I like where you've pinned.

That makes sense about the puffer given the price. If the other coat isn't too expensive I would think to keep it as long as the smaller size works out. It will always be handy for certain situations. You have been looking for a long time. Given that you say straight skirts are hard to find, and that one does fit really nicely, and given that it is a bargain, I would keep both. You have a small wardrobe, so there must be space for two wool skirts.

Okay, I've ordered the navy coat. I'm going to post some pictures for evaluation when it arrives. If it works out then you're right Scarlet, it's worth keeping for certain situations. And you're right, I don't have many fall/winter skirts, I can certainly afford to keep them both. I think they are different enough in the end.

I love both those skirts for you, especially pinned up. I think they fit your style perfectly, so do you have room for 2 plaid skirts? I think you do

I agree with Scarlet's initial comments on the coat so I will leave well enough alone there.
I love a plaid skirt. The blue and green is my favorite kind of plaid so there's my bias coming out. I agree with you that the fit is lovely. I also agree that it would be a good idea to shorten it like the the red plaid skirt.
I like the red plaid skirt too. I like it even more shortened. I can't wait to see what you do with these pieces.

Love the skirts--your call on wardrobe room for them, but I can see you getting different color combinations and silhouettes by having both, so if you like skirts, I say charge ahead.

Not a fan of the cut of the wool coat for you. Are you feeling pushed to close the deal or could you try other brand-styles? It may be the size after all, so you can see how the navy works, but it may be the cut. I'm a bit of a pear, so I try to avoid those hip patch pockets,but I think it's more that that--it doesn't flow. The puffer, though large, has good lines and just seems happier on you, so maybe you could find something more similar to it that fits better.

I LOVE both of the plaid skirts! I think they are different enough (especially after shortening the red one) that there is a place for both. I like the shirt too, especially if you add vents.

Not crazy about either of the coats. I am not a puffer fan though so maybe don't consider my opinion on that one too seriously. The wool coat seems overwhelming to me, and I'm not sure that sizing down would fix that. With that length, I'd like it to be more fitted through the body to avoid looking like it swallows you up.

OMG, I love the color of the puffer on you! Can you try a different size and maybe a petite to see if that helps the fit issues?

Astrid, I actually prefer the puffer to the coat on you. Although I can tell that there is some excess fabric in the back, it doesn't bother me. Don't you think extra room for an extra layer will be handy when the chill of Winter winds sets in? Of course, you know this best. I really like the shirt on you! Lovely color! Both tartan skirts are fab, but if you only decide on one, I bet for the blue/green one. Just perfect - and yes to shortening, too!

Thanks Unfrumped! Yes, I love wearing skirts. I can see what you mean about the coat. I'll wait and see if the navy one is better, but I won't keep it if it looks similar to this one. I'm not set on brand or anything, but I need something practical and really warm (just a wool coat isn't warm and practical enough) and ideally I want something longer to wear over my skirts.

Thanks Diana! You're right, I think they will look different enough when they're shortened. I'm going to keep both. The vents are really necessary, but then this one will be great. I'm already loving the other flannel shirt after a few short weeks, it's just so cozy and comfortable without being as casual as a sweatshirt for example.

Thanks Una! I love the color too. It's a small regular. I could try a petite, but I don't think that would fix the issues. The shoulders and sleevelength are fine and might be too narrow and short with the petite. I could try the jacket they have in the same color, it wouldn't have the fit issues with the hips. But I really need a long coat too.

Thanks Ingunn! I agree that the puffer looks way better than the other coat, but the issue with the top bugs me too much to spend that much money on it. I tried it again with the thickest layers under it I would normally wear in winter and it's still too roomy on top.

I'm so glad you decided to keep both skirts and the shirt. They will all look great on you once the little alterations are done. Too bad about the puffer - it is such a great colour on you. I'm not as fond of the second coat, but it's hard to tell for sure when the size is wrong. I think the last one you just linked to is really cute, but without a hood it's probably better for late Fall than Winter don't you think?

Thanks missvee! It doesn't bother me that the last coat doesn't have a hood, my current coat that I've had for five years doesn't have one either. I just use an umbrella and wear a hat or a cap. And a hood gets on my nerves when I have to sort my hair, scarf and backpack out all the time.

Love the purple on you. I think a petite might work better though. It seems to fit well except for the waist being a bit too low.

I like the first plaid skirt long as is. I think it looks really nice at the midi length but I am sure it would be really nice shortened too.

Thanks Dianthus. I had tried one of their petite puffers before and the sleeves were too short, I think this would also be the case here. Maybe it's the pics, but I thought the waist was alright, there was just too much fabric on top. I'm not sure I'd wear the skirt left long. It seems to overwhelm me, I think I feel stumpy with it at that length.

I really love the shirt. The coats I'm not qualified to comment on--I'm in Florida so my coat-eye is completely untrained.

The red skirt, though ... I think it looks great on you either way, but I actually prefer it un-shortened. I guess I think it looks more modern? It's less common to see plaid at the longer length, maybe that's why. The length it is looks fun and retro to me. It will be wonderful shortened too of course, but i just thought I'd through that out there as a dissenting thought to think about :p

The plaid skirts are very different, there'd be room in my closet for both. They fit you really well, as does the shirt.

The jackets I'm not loving. It would be nice if they had defined waists. Not really easy to come by. My dream puffer has a sharply defined waist and is just a wee narrower in the shoulders than they usually make. The purple IS awesome tho.

Ohh I am so glad you are keeping both skirts, they are awesome! I like the length you pinned on the green one, but I think the red one should actually be another inch longer than that one; it'll be sooo cozy and 70s cool looking with some tall boots! I'm afraid I'm no help on the coats, but look forward to seeing the one you ordered.

Astrid, would you consider a Petite in the wool coat? Maybe in the puffer as well, although you said that last time a puffer's sleeves were too short. Check the size charts; sometimes a PM will be in-between a Regular S and Regular M in addition to having shorter arms and length. The Petite hips are more likely to hit you at your hips than lower as the Regular seems to do.

Last year I bought the parka version of your #2 coat with thinsulate. I bought it for outdoor activities where I could never seem to stay warm. I live where it gets very windy when it's cold and so I needed warm and wind proof. Although I think the parka is too heavy, it is warm, and I don 't have to baby it or worry about it.
