Layering T-shirt Over Button Down Shirt

Hi Has anyone here ever layered a t-shirt over a long sleeve button down shirt? Its something I'd like to try but not sure how to pair them

I have worn a tee over a button down...The tee was larger but it made for a nice layering...Good luck

I've never layered a Tee over a button-down, but if I did, I'd want the button-down to have some stretch in it so I wouldn't feel too penned-in or strait-jacketed.

haven't done this since the sixth grade, but with 70s fashion trending again, i can see this coming back.

I don't have a pic of this. But a couple of years ago, I bought a navy and white stripe (what else?) T from Joe Fresh. And soon after, watched a runway clip, in which they showed it worn over a white shirt-- with the shirt sleeves rolled up (the neat J Crew way, not the sloppy L'Abeille default way) so that the cuff/roll was just below the end of the T shirt sleeve. Looked pretty sharp.

Myself, I have layered over shirts with looser fitting T shirt styles, works better at a short or cropped length. Similar to layering with a sweater, the collar adds the contrast I need at the neckline.

I don't wear button downs but I do layer t shirts over long sleeve tops that have a tail (rounded hem) at the front and back so the look is somewhat similar to a shirt (but no collar or buttons!) I agree that for it to work the t shirt has to be loose fitting and on the shorter side (hip length or higher). If the tee is too tight you will get a sort of peplum effect happening with the shirt. It can also work with a sleeveless tee - kind of makes it look like a vest. It's a good way to get more wear out of your favourite tees in cooler weather.
