Laundering bras - YouLookFab Forum

Today's blog posting about camisoles got me thinking about how to care for bras. I put them in a mesh bag and in the machine on the delicate cycle and never in the dryer, which I think is pretty typical. The problem is that I never know how many times I wear them between laundering, so unsure if I'm treating them as best I can or keeping them reasonably clean.

Do any of you have a good way to do this? If you always wear a bra only once and then launder it then it would be easy but I have never done it that way except in summer when it's hot and humid, when they beom a bit of a laundry bottleneck. And having multiple colors for different outfits makes it even harder.

I've tried to keep them stacked and take from the left side of the stack and put clean ones on the right but something always interferes with that system.

This whole topic seems a bit silly to me except that good bras are pricey and I want to preserve my investment.

Does Anyone have any good recommendations for this ?

I use a powder wash I get at Dillards can't remember the name but it has a white bottle and pink lid. Soak in sink for 15 minutes or so. Hang dry. I am a 34E and my bras are expensive! I only wear once. I've never used the washing machine. I do this once a week. I've bought multiples of my fav Prima Donna bra so I don't have to do this often. Hope that helps!

My bras are really expensive so I hand wash them. Like you I wear them a few times before laundering (although never two days in a row) except in summer. I keep all freshly washed bras in a drawer in my closet. I also have two hooks hanging over the laundry basket in the closet. After I've worn it once, it goes on the first hook, after the second wear it goes on the second hook, after the third wear in goes in the laundry. The hooks are just those commando things.

My storage system is different and maybe that helps. I pin my bras to a hanger and they hang in my closet with the rest of my clothes. I have two hangers. One for freshly washed, and one for hanging after they have been used once. After they are removed from the second hanger they go into the laundry. You could add a third hanger if you wanted to wear them three times between washing.

I use regular safety pins and they are re-usable. I started with quilting pins, so they are medium large sized.

I also wash in a mesh bag in my machine. I used to hand wash separately, but found my washer is very gentle and works just as well and is more convenient.

Mary so you wear only once between washings and have enough of them to do it once a week.....i can see how that would work well. I'm more Interested in the frequency of washing and size of collection than the washing method. Thanks!

I wear my bras probably 2-3 times between washes unless, as you mentioned, it's super hot and humid. Rather than putting the once-worn ones back in with the newly washed ones I hang them on the back of the closet door. That way they air out and I know which ones are used. I like to give them a day or two to air out and relax before wearing again (same theory as shoes). if I need, say, a black bra and there's one hanging there that I didnt wear the previous day I'll wear that one rather than getting a new one. This system works very well for me!

Like Mary, I am a fan of Prima Donna bras. G cup here. Since they are underwire and expensive, I hand wash - more like hand soak using woolite. After one wear they go in my laundry bag, and about twice a weak I wash three at a time.

When I was working full time, I would do three on Saturday and three on Sunday, now I am not so disciplined.

I store them together in a drawer so I can easily eyeball it when I'm getting low and it's time to wash some. I have eight or nine, so if worse comes to worse I can do a whole week without washing, but then it is a major drag to catch up. Also, most are nude or pale pink, only a couple in black and blue, I don't match to outfits unless the garment really calls for it.

I also have a couple of no-wire sport type bras that go in a mesh bag in the machine.

I wear bras twice, never two days in a row but do as Diana does. I have three hooks in my closet. One is for my robe, one is for bras, and one for jeans I have worn once and are still pretty clean. Often I only wear jeans part of a day, so also wait until after the second wear before washing. After the second wear, bras go into a small lingerie basket for hand washed items. It is often difficult to find pretty bras in a 30 band size, so I take care of them. I also have a very basic washing machine and don't trust it with delicates.

I wear sports bras everyday for work. Breathable spandax cotton mix. I have 7 so i wear one a day. Was like you do.

Now for my expensive bras. I wear them 2x but not on the same day. I also have 7 of those i habd wash in the sink and air dry.
