Yup. I had a dainty back pack in black quilted canvas with lots of silver hardware back in the day. Anyone else do the Prada - esque fancy back pack thing back then?

I had one of the brown leather ones in the 90s!

These days, I have my silver leather Elliott Lucca backpack that was a gift from Sona (and inspired by Isabel, who has a similar one).

And I have always wanted not a Prada backpack, but one of the Prada nylon messengers. I have had various similar black nylon bags over the years that have always gotten a lot of use. I actually like the late 90s version with the two front pockets and buckles best.

I had them! I had them! Clear vinyl and (I think) a leather one, too. Backpacks were an easier sell to my mom than some other popular things, because.... well, I think I was in elementary school at the time. O_O.

I still like the look, but the backpack would really have to sing to me to gain a space in my closet, since it's possible they won't stick around for long.

I can remember my mum wearing fashion backpacks instead of handbags when I was little, very practical with a small child! I love my (gear) backpacks because they are just so practical and sometimes prefer to use them even though I could have taken a handbag. I could definitely see myself using a more fancy backpack as an alternative to a bag. I really have enough handbags, maybe I should think about buying a fab backpack. Although I'm very particular about backpacks, so the perfect one might be hard to find.

I still have a soft leather backpack somewhere in the house. At the moment I don't want a backpack because I wear a puffer in winter and it would be difficult to get it on & off. And once a week I already have to carry my violin case on my back so I need a handbag that I can hold in my hands.

I just saw a gorgeous backpack/purse at JCPenney. It had sequins on it and was calling my name. I think i'm putting it on my gift wishlist lol.

I had one back in the day. My mother uses it now on a regular basis, so I don't think I'll be able to pry it away from her.

I skipped it before and will again for the same reason - how is it safe to have your purse on your back? It makes me feel like such a target for pick pockets. The only backpack I've had is my diaper bag and that was necessary to have hands free and nobody wanted to steal what was in that bag!

I never had one until last year, when I got a small gray convertible Hayden-Harnett backpack. You can switch the straps to go from messenger/shoulder to backpack. I found myself using it as a backpack a lot more than I thought I would!

I never did the backpack thing unless it was gear or a camera bag. Sometimes the idea appeals to me. It figures the one I liked the most in that link was the most expensive -- the Theyskens Theory one!

I did but I was much smaller then. I don't need anything pulling my shirt across my chest -- for this reason I also avoid cross-body styles.

I did it then....and I am VERY tempted to do it again. Not so much in winter, because it's tough with a puffer coat or a dressy wool coat. Just doesn't look right, and pulls too much. For for spring/ fall/ summer this would be perfect for my life. I am often carting around my computer, a lot of books, an extra layer, or i am travelling and have to lug extra stuff. And a big shoulder bag pulls one out of alignment with a load like that.

I LOVE the leopard one and the sparkly one in the slideshow...and um...the Theory one, of course. Love that one most, but not its price tag.

I loved them. A Helmut Lang one & a Prada one. I wouldn't wear them again though mainly because of the safety factor, I much prefer a messenger now.

In 1995 I went to Italy and purchased two Prada nylon backpacks: one for myself, one for what you would now call my BFF. I still have mine, I am quite the hoarder.

Whether I would revisit this trend, I have to think about this.

I had so many trendy backpacks (cheap ones--I was a genuine schoolkid) back then! Now I have a very boring black diaper backpack. Wouldn't mind replacing it with that leopard UO one since the diaper one was a waste of money--it's already falling apart.

Just for laughs, here's my diaper one--love how the writeup tries to sell it as stylish. LOL. If a plain black nylon backpack is stylish, I'm Michelle Obama.
