Thanks for sharing that wise paragraph from Vonnegut. Six seasons is a perfect way to divide the year except where I live. I live in the southwest and we have two seasons; Unbelievably Hot which lasts six months, and Mild which also lasts six months. Mild season has a variety of temperatures from 50 F to 90 F but most days are in the 70F. Unbelievably Hot Season seems to always be 107F.

I love that, and it's very true here. I am feeling late in my spring shopping this year, even though I don't think the weather has been all that different from normal in my part of the country...if anything, it's been dryer and windier.

Hahaha, vey funny! Thank you Rhubarbgirl. Our Springs are very unpredictable. April is particularly mean. Every year at this time the weather turns hot, everything blooms and then, when you least expect it, a wave of damn cold arrives! I have changed my approach to Spring wardrobe management many years ago: no storing away Winter clothes until June!

Haha! That's a brilliant take on the seasons.

It was even unseasonably chilly in east Texas last weekend, and for the second year in a row, the growing season is running late for the pastures at our ranch -- it's actually pretty stressful as we grapple with how to feed the cattle for a couple more weeks until the grass takes off. The hay from the winter is already depleted.

At home in the mid-Atlantic, we had 80+ degrees for a couple of days and then plunged back into winter.

:). The technical seasonal divisions certainly don’t match the actual weather divisions. And temperatures jump around from hour to hour and day to day. We had hotter weather a few days in, I think it was February, than we have had since. Pretty day today so I’m not complaining.

Yup- that about sums it up. I guess KV lived in same locale as TS Eliot for them to feel the same about April.
I don’t know if it just me getting old with a not so accurate memory or if weather is just more .......... unfriendly now.
Thanks for the post- I love getting exposed to literary greats in unexpected places.
