K/T: some old stuff - YouLookFab Forum

I decided to go through my give-away bag today. Half of it was garbage, half was donate-able or even consign-able, and then I found these three items that I can't decide about.

Please forgive the terrible selfies and the giant mess that is my bedroom, but I'd love your opinions. Keep or toss? If you vote for keep, please help me figure out how to style these things.

1: Gigantic H&M smock blouse (pics 1-3)
Pro: I like the colors, and they go fairly well with the rest of my wardrobe.
Con: It's absolutely gigantic. It's also sheer - can I wear this to work?

My one thought is to wear it tucked into a (longer) pencil skirt, maybe with the cobalt blazer. It's too long to tuck into pants...

2. Springy skirt from Forever 21 (pic 4)
Pro: It's springy.
Con: It's not my colors, really. It also feels too girly, and I think it's too casual to wear to work.

3. Spring skirt from Marc Jacobs (pic 5)
Pro: I paid less than $10 for a Marc Jacobs skirt. The shape is at least a little bit more conservative than the other skirt.
Con: It's not really my colors either. Could I get away with this in the workplace? How?

The skirts fits you lovely but if it's not you're style donate them

Way too much top for you, but the colors are fab on you. I vote to have it shortened. While you're at it, have them stitch a hem in the piece they cut off too...bonus infinity scarf! Both skirts are gorgeous for Spring. While you're at the tailor, have them pin those into pencil skirts to see if you like them then.

I'm not sure what to do about the smock blouse. Since it's gigantic and sheer, it seems it would be difficult to work with. Personally I don't like things that take that much effort. About the skirts, well, they fit you well. Can you try them with cardigans/blazers/belts and see what you think? Do you have a green top that would go with them. Everybody has been talking about juxtapositions; it might be fun to take these very sweet skirts and toughen them up a little with your choice of topper and footwear. And then donate if they still just don't get worn.

I think you could style the second skirt in an interesting way, if you wanted to go to the trouble. The other two pieces don't seem like worth keeping.

The blouse is interesting but is really big. Does it bother you having to tuck that much fabric? If you wanted to get it shortened like carter mentioned, that might work, but if it's still a hassle, I'd let it go.

The second skirt seems a little young to me, compared to some of your other pieces. I might wear it around town but I agree it might be too casual for work. I'd probably get mistaken for student in it.

I think the third skirt is interesting. Maybe if you toughened it up a bit with a denim jacket over it?

I would donate the blouse. It is too big, and not in the fluid on trend way.

I would try styling the skirts. If you can't make them work for you, I would donate/consign. They are beautiful and fit well, but no point keeping them if you won't wear them.

I would certainly donate the the second skirt, but keep the third one. What is the dress code in your place? i could see it with lots of tops, especially fluid welted pullovers, like here: http://youlookfab.com/2013/03/.....red-skirt/
The blouse I am unsure about. I might try it with skinny black pants, black cami and some kind of black heels.

Thanks, everyone! The top and skirt #1 are definitely going into the giveaway bag; I may continue playing with skirt #2, but it will probably go back into the bag as well.

The top is really just ridiculously large on me.

The colors of the skirts are wrong, and as Dee points out, the first skirt is too darn girly and young. Just doesn't feel like me any more, if it ever did!

Tanya: So wise! I'm going to have to try that skirt again - but I may end up passing it on as well. The colors may just be wrong for the rest of my closet.

ETA: Office is officially business casual but ... the software folks wear jeans every day unless there's a client in town.

Well the smock is cute but I find the style and cut a little dated. Having said that if you wanted to give it a go, I would be trying it over a skinny leg pant, with a heel and see how you feel.

Both skirts again are reading a little dated to me. This style of skirt was so poplar here just after I had my son (he is 11). I know it's a style that repeats but I just find it falls very much into what I consider weekend wear. It's kind of cute and youthful. It's quite a contrast to my preferred look so I may be judging a little harshly. I do think if all three were in the donate bag, then you have probably really made your mind up already.

I agree with Deborah that the skirts seem dated to me. I vote for donating. I find that unless I *need* the item for some reason (say, I have to have a red shirt for some reason, and this is my only red shirt), it's better to donate. I don't think you probably *need* these items, and your wardrobe will function just fine without them, so I would say, Bon voyage!

Now to the real question ... Can you wear that tunic top as a dress (with tights) or cover up for the beach? The second option would be to go the chopping route and make them shorter. Is that possible?

As about the skirts they are cute ... But if its not your style then toss.

I like the smock. I'd wear it with leggings, maybe belt it. I think, however, the Marc Jacobs has to go... I love Marc, but this skirt requires Rocky Horror hair to approach cool, is my feeling.

I'm so rude! I know, I know. Marc will hate me.

Not sure what that top is made of but it's a perfect beach/pool coverup! He skirts are nice but not super wowing me. Maybe because I just purged a bunch of similar skirts that were getting no wear.
