K/T: boho-ish items - YouLookFab Forum

I bought this embroidered top at a consignment store. It is navy blue with white embroidered flowers. I've worn it a handful of times and I have received positive comments every single time. I genuinely like the top. On the other hand, in my small wardrobe, it seems to only play nicely with my straight leg white jeans (not my typical garb), and I don't have flat shoes (my preference) that work well with them. I think I should get white or cognac flat sandals, or maybe move the top along. FWIW, I have a small wardrobe, so perhaps the flat sandals are just a wardrobe hole...

Also, this poncho was given to me by my mom several years ago after one of her Ecuador visits. I never wore it and kept it in the back of my wagon. It has been subjected to years of farm, dog, and kid life tossed onto it. After seeing so many ponchos last year, I wondered if it would work for me this fall. Here it is, freshly washed.

Thoughts?

Do you have the space to store the shirt? If closet space isn't an issue, I think having it function in one great outfit would be enough to keep it. But if you don't like the white jeans/sandals (those aren't cognac? they look like it on my monitor), and you have no other way to wear the blouse, then it might be better to pass it along.

That poncho is a lot of look. I think it's longer than the typical retail poncho? Only you can decide if you'd be comfortable wearing it out in public! You certainly seem statuesque enough to pull it off if you feel psychologically comfortable. (I say that as someone who happily wears clothes that would make a lot of others on the forum feel fussy, so it's a genuine condition, not a backhanded way of saying not to wear it. If that makes sense!)

I think the floral top looks great with both the jeans and sandals you are wearing. I think of blue as a neutral, and would wear that top with shades of blue, with black, with tan/khaki - I think it would probably work with many more bottoms than you think.

The poncho is cool! I'd definitely wear it.

The sandals in the photo are cognac. I bought them several years for a dressy-to-me occasion. They have a moderate heel. I have only worn them a handful of times over the years and completely resist wearing them. They are in a give-away pile. Today, I wore the shirt and jeans with my purple suede birks, which are comfy but don't really add anything to the shirt or pants. Apparently I am getting a bit fussier, which is a good thing...

Yes, this is a whole lot of poncho! I'll have to consider whether I am psychologically comfortable. It's a perfect way to describe my dilemma, actually. I feel like I've spent years hiding out, so I understand what you mean.

MuseumGal, thanks! I have tried it with all my bottoms, and while I can make it work with a couple of others, it's a matter of styling/available shoes. I think I'll need to prioritize my next purchase to expand my options.
