K/T - orphan white wide-leg trousers

I have such a hard time letting go of a well-fitting pair of trousers, even though I never wear them! I guess it's because it's not so easy for me to find one that fit me and are long enough. So I keep them...just in case.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit, these are probably 7 years old -- worn at my last semi-office environment job. I tried them on and took pics earlier this year and forgot to post them.

I dunno. Do you think these are worth keeping for my casual life? I have the same pants in black and I do wear them from time to time, but white bottoms are more challenging for me.

They fit beautifully and the waist detail is so nice and flattering. I like them very much even if they are not the current trendy style.

They are really gorgeous pants, Janet, and you look great in them! Hmmm. I am torn. In my own case, if I don't wear it I almost always purge, unless it is a sentimental item for some reason and doesn't take up much space.

How about challenging yourself to wear them and see how that feels? You truly look wonderful in them!

I agree with Suz. Make some outfits & wear them then if they don't work you can let them go with no regrets

+1 agreeing with Suz and caro. They are gorgeous and flattering, but if you'd never wear them, that's beside the point. I'd try pairing them with a drapey casual top and some chunky jewelery to add relaxed rock 'n roll to the look, and keep them from being too formal.

I think they look fantastic and I would be tempted to keep. On the other hand, when is the last time you wore them? Would you wear them?

Do you like them well enough to give yourself a challenge? What about styling them 3 different ways, and wear each outfit at least once in the next month. Then decide.

The sad part is I want a pair of pants just like that. I am trying to replace my white linen trousers. ( I outgrew them ;-)) I think if you feel they are too precious the white trousers aren't a fit with your lifestyle. On the other hand I feel they are SO versatile and the chambray combo is evidence that they can look casually polished. Fingers crossed that you keep them.

I think they look great! I can see you wearing them with a slouchy top (not too long) and semi tucked. Then add a medium width belt.

BTW I don't think the fact that they are 7 years old matters at all as the style looks very current. I posted a coat last week that has to be 10+ years old:)

I have a couple pair of pants in the same category of great fit, never worn.

Now, when I look at these pants I do agree they fit really well! I think I feel a bit different than others in that the style doesn't look that current to me. I think it has to do with the wide band at the the waist and the cross over buttoning. I also feel like they have a tiny bit of flare/bell bottom look going, even though I know they are wide leg, but I guess that combined with the super wide top makes them look very 70's to me. Then again, I think that look might be coming back a bit? So is that the look you want? Because they do look and fit great, they're just not "janet" style to me.

ETA - I'm also wondering if a longer top to cover the waist might look better, and offset the 70's vibe to me?

Thanks for all the feedback! These pants have been in and out of the donation/sell pile so many times, I can't even count. I like the idea of trying some outfits to see how it feels, especially since later this week we might have a day or two when the temps don't reach much above 80 (I hope!). I think our climate is part of why these go unworn. They look pretty summery to me, but our summers are too hot for me to bother with long pants very much.

Janet, that's the kind of analysis that really helps. For me, at least, climate and weather conditions play such an enormous role. There are items I like a lot, that look great, that I would love to wear...in theory...that end up languishing in the closet just because I really don't have the climate to wear them.

Suz, this is so true. These pants fell into the climate/lifestyle change no-man's land. They were great when I worked part time for the interior design firm. I guess I'm wondering if I will really find them useful for casual wear. Maybe for a day in the studio when I have visitors -- but not when I am taking people up into the clock tower! It's so dusty and dirty up there, even though it's very Hugo-esque steampunk fun. White pants would be doomed.

Btw, I see wider trousers and bootcut trousers making a bit of a comeback.

I'm excited for bootcuts and (slightly) wider legs to make a return. I'm not completely over skinnies, by far, and I'm way too invested in them to give them up, but I do crave variety.

They fit you beautifully but I still think I'd give them up because you are not wearing them and as you said the weather plays a role in this. I have 2 pair of white jeans - one finally made it to the donate pile, the other is "on hold" because I've worn them maybe once or twice in the past year. I think really it's the same thing here - too hot to wear when it's warm and white pants usually don't make my personal fall/winter wardrobe cut. If you think you can style them for fall/winter then by all means give it a go - but otherwise I'd say they are taking up space.

Raisin said everything I was thinking. Except that I have sugar eye for wide legs, but the waistband details are what's making them a bit dated for me. Also totally agree that they look great on you, but don't *feel* like you. I do see why you've had a hard time giving them up.
They do seem like perfect cruise/resort evening wear though. I have clothes I keep solely for that purpose, which just don't fit with my urban lifestyle, nor at the casual cottage where any evening clothing changes are about mosquitoes, not dressing for dinner! But even though I'm not into cruises and go to a Carribean resort once every 5-10 years, I keep clothes for that purpose. It's a fantasy lifestyle perhaps, but a happy fantasy

LOL -- I just only now realized that in that rear view shot, we can see why I need a little tailoring help. These were never hemmed, and you can tell my one leg is longer than the other by the way the hem on the left drags in the ground. It's a shame because the right leg is PPL. My poor crooked body!

Of course, you also had me with the fact the pants are white. You launched me into orbit with them.

I have one leg longer than the other too. I've often wondered whether the difference in pants legs is noticeable on the few pairs of pants I have that weren't hemmed. But I didn't notice in your pictures!

janet, i love these pants. a few weeks ago you posted that you were looking for ideas for the NAS leather peplum vest. i would pair the vest with these pants, add a denim or leather jacket for cooler days.
