I guess I probably like them full length the best...as for rolled, I'm not really sure which length I like best! Miss Indecisive here.
I just got a pair of ankle pants from BR, and I will say that at least in my case (I am short), I felt that heels were necessary to prevent the stumpy look unless the pant legs were rolled up so that the length was maybe 4 inches above the ankle. To wear them as the "regular" ankle pants (hitting just above the ankle), I thought heels were required to avoid stumpiness. Also, I found that wearing a shoe with a low vamp (like your flats) was also very helpful to lengthen the leg. As soon as I switched to booties, my legs became stumps.
Regarding these pants, did you consider buying the petite size or the short inseam at BR? (Sometimes they have short inseams, though they're probably online only.) I think both of those might have been the proper length on you. I am concerned that with shortening the length, there will not be as much taper at the bottom, which creates an unflattering look. If you can buy them at the right length, tapering shouldn't be such an issue. FWIW, I ordered my ankle pants in both the petite and the misses' sizing, and there wasn't much difference in the waist (the rise is about 1/4" less in the petite); the difference was predominantly in the length. The pants I ordered were the twill, not the Sloan—not sure if that matters.
