K/R...plaid experiment and more....

Hit the mall this AM because I needed to be out of the house. I've been wanting to check out some plaids so here's what shook down.

Picked up this AE plaid flannel shirt in a men's XS. The SA actually recommended it over the ladies' version (which I couldn't even find). I was drawn to the colours so gave it a whirl. XS fit better in the shoulders, but is snug across the hips. Not so much of an issue if I keep to tucking it. Showed the S version in the changeroom. I felt oddly like I was re-living the 90's and then got all confused about fit. Should I be sizing up or down? Gah! I also picked up a hectically oversized hoodie for my at-home-casual-workout-walk-the-dog capsule (#13). Keep?. It was buy-one-get-one-half off. So I'm showing the shirt in a million iterations here. I realized that i purchased a lot of teal/green knitwear last season in an attempt to break free of too much black/grey. I also realized that I am waging full-on war with a woodpecker that is trying to break into my house. In between trying on outfits I was banging on walls, running around the top floor trying to scare the darn thing off.

Thoughts? I will reserve judgement....

I have the LLBean scotch plaid enroute to my house. It should arrive late next week.

I love the colors and the oversized fit, but I'd like to see the shoulder seams in the right place. You are so lean and model-like, I feel you can pull this off anyway. That's the only thing that caught my eye.

Interesting, Una - you think the shoulder seams are too low? Didn't feel like that in person but I will double check that. That's why I love it here, you guys think of things I don't even notice. Thanks!

I could be wrong. My eye always goes right to shoulders, of course. With toppers it's not an issue anyway!
I always wore my shirts like this back in my 20s and loved it.

Hmm, I'd like to see this side by side with your L.L. Bean shirt when it arrives because I am not sure about the scale of the plaid. It seems a little overwhelming on your frame. I like the shirt best under the blue cardigan and teal sweater. Gorgeous colors!

I think the scale of the plaid is a bit too large - that was my first thought. Pretty colors.

I try not to look at what other people say, before I produce my reaction, but I also think the plaid is too large in scale. Love the colors on you, though!

I think you need to pass on the mens fit plaid shirt, Jackie. It's far too big on the arms. I don't mind the scale of the plaid - FUN - but the fit has to be right to pull off the scale. xo

OMG I can not believe I successfully spotted an issue! Sorry about that, Jackie - it's a great shirt and you will find yours, probably married to my long blazer.

Who knew plaid shirts could be so much work, right? The colours on this one are great.

I have already tried and discarded a bunch. The LL Bean one that I want will not be in stock until January.....

That's so funny. I thought #14 was the best, too. The most chic at-home outfit I've seen. I might need to upgrade my loungewear!

Back It goes! I appreciate all of the comments. Yes, this plaid shirt stuff is hard work I did try a couple on at Zara too but they didn't seem to work either. I'll keep my eye out & see how the LLBean one works out.

In the meantime I picked up some mixed media leather look pants from Zara today. Assumed they'd be a keep but maybe I should run those by the masses too ;). I love YLF.
