K/R/help me style this pink skirt, please

My mom bought me this gorgeous pink skirt for my birthday about a month ago and I've been struggling so much to style it that I'm wondering if I should exchange it for something else.

A turtleneck, tights and boots seems easy, but what color on top? I tried gray and it's very "meh." I would love to add some pattern, but I tried it with the chunky fair isle sweater shown in one of the pics and it made the whole outfit very blocky. I'm carrying a few extra pounds, so I'd like to make it as sleek as possible. I would also love to be able to wear it and be warm enough.

I have similar difficulties with a Wedgwood blue Halogen pencil skirt. Some of you are such masters at styling the solid color pencil skirt. What's a foolproof formula?

perhaps a chambray shirt but thats as far as I can see it...not much help in the tights/boot department..

Keep the look tonal or low contrast for a less blocky effect. Have you tried something pink, red or orange for on top?

Why don't you relegate the gorgeous skirt to a neutral and then try to work with it as you consider any color...I am currently in love with this color...my interest is a fuchsia jacket with my neutrals...I also have a pair of heels that I wear with jeans that are this crazy pink...I would wear this skirt with leopard, black and white stripe, black and white pattern, a military jacket over a denim shirt, a white shirt, a black shirt, a white blazer, I would pair this with different jackets and shoes to contrast your top...Thinking of this as your neutral whatever you put with it will fly...I hope you find as much fun with this color as I am finding...I love my heels with everything...Let me hear how this goes...

I have a Halogen pencil skirt in a very similar shade of pink, and wear it with a muted, mustard yellow waist-length cardigan, black tights and black heels. I have also worn it with a navy V-neck sweater, or a drapey cream silk blouse, or, when I am feeling very punchy, a chartreuse cardigan. I strongly dislike button-downs so these options all work well for me in an office setting. I think the trick is not to wear unbroken black on top as that to my eye creates too strong a contrast, a la 90s colour-blocking.

I just looked at the Talbots page for this skirt...I know, I know...I do not need to shop...However, much to my chagrin, this little pretty is not available in my size...I would have ordered it...

The fuchsias I prefer are a bit less acid than this skirt looks, at least on my tablet, but I tend to wear them with blue - light chambray or darker navies - white, cream, black, and olive green. If you're an autumn something like mustard yellow would be interesting, or a darker mulberry for a tone on tone look. A pop of citron would be fun. I can't think of much that I wouldn't wear with that color, it just depends on whether you're aiming at a highly contrasted look or not.

When I'm stumped i just do black tee, black tights/boots for starters... Or a plain white shirt.

You could consider a cream turtleneck, denim jacket, cream tights and leopard shoes. Or a brown crew neck with a fuschia collar shirt and brown tights and booties.

I like Angie's idea of tonal. I find a-line skirts to be difficult and having something that looks more like all one excellent! color could help.

Could you color block that with say Kelly green or even orange! For the office you. Ishtar need to to e it down a bit and go with a simple white blouse and a navy cardigan.....my thoughts at least.

I love that skirt! (I also got that sweater for my pink and orange fix).
Angie's advice sounds very good to me(go figure). I would try some kind of dark red because there's so much of it around now. There are pos ts on red ++ pink. You would need to see whether to go more burgundy. the more medium orange would be fab but might be harder to find. The blue suggestions are good as of course navy goes, but also you might find a more medium blue--either real denim-chambray or just that hue.

I understand how a lot of colors just don't hit the right note of the zing of that color--can't believe they showed it with that gray top.
Another thing is to try a graphic print in crisp colors--see the polka-dot AT blouse, just as a concept, but you could find a knit, and other colors--that avoids the color-blocking effect. So, if I were you I'd wear it shopping, with some make-do top, and try colors and fits.
The fair isle sweater IS blocky, so you are probably looking for something that collapses more, a finer knit, or a silkier top.

My local Talbots showed that skirt with a cotton button front shirt that was cream with pink and orange stirrup print. Because it's on huge discount now, I would pick it up and then wear it under a green or orange cardigan or ink or black moto. Black tights with boots. I love this color of pink with mustard, too. Or purple. Treat it as a neutral.

Thank you, Angie. I think you’re right that low contrast is what I need. I love the idea of pink on top, or maybe a pink/orange combo.

Crutcher, your pink shoes sound amazing! Thanks for all the encouragement. I love this color too, so why does it seem harder to wear it on the bottom than the top? I’m wrapping my brain around “hot pink as a neutral.” In my imaginary world, it sounds great. Now to make it reality!

Crutcher, the phone-ordering people can help you locate it in a store. I know...I’m not helping.

Laura, it’s bright, but I wouldn’t say acid. Dark mulberry sounds interesting. I’ll keep that in mind. I love how Janice shows an item styled all different ways. I already looked and she doesn’t seem to have done a pink skirt. I might look again to see what she’s done with different bright colors.
