K/R/E/A: The forest print dress

The tag says "Press Dress" and it certainly needs it.

Here it is. It's about one step up from juniors quality and price. It's loose on me, and one of the weird quirks of being an IT is that it's hard to tell when things are just too big, because they hang well and can fool the eye. The shoulder seams are a little off and the shape is very straight - there's lots of hip room and pockets. I could size down but I'm wondering if the shoulder fit will be too tight. I could also have Nordstrom alter the sleeves themselves which are a little loose.

Do I look like a shapeless blob of forest here? All feedback welcome!

Not going to be any help...as a fellow IT I know exactly what you are talking about. But here's what I think. It looks loose but fantastic. I love it on you. Maybe it might be a little big, but I can think of one oddness about this dress and size...wouldn't you want it to hang kind of straight? If it was more fitted to the body, would be print be distorted and give you wobbly trees?

Hmm, this is interesting.

1. I love this dress, and want it, now.
2. you do not look like a shapeless blob of forest.
3. I like it best with the black patent boots, which you are apparently never taking off.
4. it looks great with the loose sweatery thing, but ever so slightly widish from the front, and less so from the side....which makes no sense.
5. it looks like there is lots of room across the shoulders - what does sizing down do? If the shoulder seams are off, that's your first sign it may be too big....
6. I love this dress, and want it, now. Oh, did I say that already?

I think you might need a size down in this. I feel like the shoulder is set too far out in this size, but as you said it hangs nice and straight here. Would the body still be sufficiently loose in a size down? If there is room in the sleeves in this size, I'd guess the size down shouldn't feel too tight in the shoulder. But of course, hard to tell without trying.

I think it looks fine but I have a really hard time telling fit from photos. It's much easier to tell if something is too big or small when I can see it in motion. I love the grey lace up boots with it.

I love it on you. I can't really tell about the size, either, so how about ordering the size down for comparison? That way you'll know for sure.

What an amazing, moody print. I really like it with the sweater, too. I prefer it with the booties but also get the need for tall boots and they do work. So will the Gidgios, right?

loose is ok. or possibly size down. how do you feel about the high neck? i like it best with the jacket for the vee illusion from the open jacket. but that takes away from the magnificence of hte print

I like it! I think this size is fine, although in pic 2 (but not in the others) it looks like maybe it's a little wide at the top. I suspect tailoring the sleeve would help in that respect though.

Still tempted to try it myself...

Oh I love it! I wish I was you so I could wear it all the time. I don't know about fit though, I'll leave that to others. My shoulders have been tricking me into wearing oversized stuff for ages. lol

I would like to see a size down for comparison. It's cool and I do see why people like it on you, but I feel the clothes-hanger effect might be a tad too much so. Definitely a statement piece though and if you love it have no doubt you can pull it off.

Diana, you should try it - I suspect it will fit like a couple of your tunic tops. I'm in a M here because the online chat gave me measurements but they are off and this is bigger than I thought. Let me know if you want me to measure!

I think I'll head to Nordie's tomorrow and see what they say about alterations to tweak it. They would be free for me as I haven't used any this year so worth it even if a bit of work....

I love the dress on you and think you should try the size down, for comparison. I think this one looks fine, but if the shoulder seams don't sit right, the next size down might be better. And if not, keep this one!

Wow, this looks so cool on you! Maybe try a small for comparison? I like it with both boots but think the black booties are best. The knee lace ups detract a bit from the graphics on the dress.

I may have to lemming this one, the length looks pretty generous for this style of dress - my issue area.

Hmm, if you could measure the hip area for me that would be great. No rush, as I am waiting for some nordstrom notes to get credited back for something I returned by mail before I order anything else.

OK, I definitely need to size down - the measurements Nordstrom gave me were off by about 2"! Armpit to armpit is 20', hips at pockets are 21". So this is 2 inches too big in the bust, and hips don't really matter for me but probably 4 inches off there. See what I mean about the IT sizing being hard to gauge?!

Thanks, Una. Not sure it'll work for me. My hips are 42 so I'd probably need a L to get a fluid fit there, but that would make the top waaay too big for me.

I love it and the only reason I would try a size down is I see the shoulders are wide on you and I guess they are not meant to me. I think it looks fantastic with the booties!

Glad you ordered the *S*, as I think you are only one size larger than I in the shoulders, not two, and the *XS* fit me pretty TTS but just didn't flatter.

I like the idea of it, but I think it looks too big and shapeless. I'm also not wild about it with the short boots.

I love the look of this dress, and I love it even more with the black topper, but it is undoubtedly too big. I think it is worth getting and keeping in a smaller size.

Another vote for a size down. It's a little blocky with that shape of sleeve plus the volume of the sack. Could be better a size down though.
