Robin -- thank you! I like the drape too, and the colour caught my eye. I'll post pics of them pinned up when I get a chance.
Astrid -- thank you, yes, I think I'm going to try the size down before I make any changes to these. I'm curious if that's the solution.
lisa p -- absolutely. I don't want them fitted, but I wouldn't mind a bit more waist definition. These are really "floaty" on my midsection. The risk is that the next size down might be a bit too slim in the legs.
mainelady -- thank you! I will keep everybody posted.
kkards -- bringing the waist in brings the hem up by almost an inch. With the loose fit in the waist, these are sitting a bit below my navel when I think they should be sitting at or a bit above. They are exquisitely comfortable, but I think they would look better with a bit more structure.
nemosmom -- I'm intrigued by the idea of taking the waist in at the side seams. I've never done that before. I'll show them to my tailor and see what she thinks. And yes, I think I'm going to try the size down too, just to satisfy my curiosity!
Janet -- I used to feel the same about pleated pants, and there are some truly horrendous ones out there.
missvee -- that instagram acct looks intriguing!
Jenni NZ -- yes, I think they are intended to hit above the ankle. The inseam is only 26", which is usually quite a bit above my ankle bone (I take a 31" inseam in full length trousers), but the crotch on these is quite dropped, even more so since they're loose in the waist. I actually wouldn't mind a similar style in a full length, true Kate Hepburn pants, but I haven't seen that anywhere but vintage shops yet. (It is a great colour, isn't it? But it's bright and I worry I might get tired of it after a season or two.)
shevia -- great minds think alike!
smittie -- that's interesting. I actually tried on a pair of pleated pants that tapered a lot more at the ankles (at the thrift store, so no Find or photos), and I was not in love. The effect made me feel a bit bulgy in the hips, whereas the wider bottom gives more of a straight-up-and-down. It did occur to me that a visible cuff (a turn-up) might add some visual weight to the hem so it's not so floaty-looking, and it would work with the vintage menswear vibe.
taylor -- thank you! Yes, I'm tempted to wear them as they are, but want to make sure they're just right (being super PPP this year!).
bijou -- thank you. That belt is gorgeous. I should look around for a belt sized to my natural waist; I've been thinking about one for dresses for a long time, and it could be useful for high waisted pants too.
FashIntern -- your eye is adjusting! Come to the dark side and bare your ankles!
ETA the smaller rust-colored pair are OTW. I'll update once I've compared the two.
