K/R: Zara Kimono Jacket

This is the blue crane kimono that Ceit has. Size M. Honest opinions welcome. I don't want to sway opinions, so I'll wait to hear what you say. Though I do wonder if it looks too "costumey" when an Asian wears a kimono? (I'm not Japanese BTW). And I will say that DH thought it looked like "a bad Hawaiian shirt". LOL.

Pic 7 is a new blue necklace from J Crew. I gave a clear version of this to my friend for her birthday and she loves it, which is great, but now I can't wear this one in front of her, in case she is wearing hers.

You know it's cute on you, but I'm wondering if it's a little too tomboy for your ladylike style. It just doesn't feel like your normal vibe whereas it suits Ceit's Urban Knight style perfectly.

Did you consider trying some of the more flowy ones at Zara? Those of us who are trying the kimonos are coming to realize they come with unique personalities. Maybe you should try the dark blue one I got....or maybe something floral?

Okay Natalie I have a totally off- kilter sounding response to this. It looks 'too ethnic' on you if that even makes sense. I would prefer you in a solid color well cut kimono more than an asian looking one. Is there such a thing as an Italian kimono?! I did order a made to order solid kimono from etsy ( has not arrived yet). She is based in Milan. I was going to include a link to her store but she no longer carries the item.

I like it but you need different shoes. Perhaps a bright pair pf pointy flats? No belt, untuck the cami and you are set to go.

My first thought was along the lines of Sona's comment. It's the same reason I don't wear westernized Indian clothing like kurtis made by Gap - some possibly fictitious authenticity issue. Plus I'm not sure this is your style. If it's any consolation, I was about to order this till I saw Nancylee rocking it and decided I could not pull off the look like she and Ceit do.

I think its strict straight lines are not playing well with your curves and your style persona. I agree with Nancy and Joy -- try another one in a different fabrication to be sure.

Wow. The feedback above reflects pretty much what I'm thinking. The color and pattern are nice. This isn't bad, but the lines/cut seems off for YOU, a little to squared off or something IYKWIM.

Hm, I am not sure about the feedback so far, but I will agree that I don't like it so much for you. I rather like the shape, but I am not fond of the pattern and patterned trim. It just doesn't work in my eyes.

You guys are right...I really wanted to like this, but something seems off about it to me. Maybe it was also because I was wearing it with boyfriend jeans. I just didn't feel like myself...not feminine enough. I think you are right about it being too tomboy/not ladylike enough for my style. Maybe I would do better with something more flowy, like Nancylee's kimono, or Sona's Asian print top, but I am wondering if I wouldn't be able to pull off Asian prints without looking too "ethnic". Somehow it looks better to me on non-Asians, isn't that strange? And I guess Una feels the same way about wearing fake Indian stuff. I may order a couple more to try since it's free shipping and free returns, but am not going to set my heart on it.

There is likely a kimono for you but I don't think this one is it. I agree with some of the others--somehow you need a drapey flowy-er something and I would also like to see a solid color, like a luscious burgundy silk, or just 2-color pattern, for some reason, even though you are the queen of fantastic pattern and pattern-mixing.

My first impression of the photo is that you are wearing a camp shirt over a T like the middle-aged uniform. So I get the remark about bad Hawaiian shirt. The effect isn't really that bad, and certainly not so's 99% of the world would notice, so that's harsh, but for some reason this particular kimono just isn't doing what you deserve.
