So I recently bought these Zara boots online. They were EXACTLY what I've been looking for for quite some time:
High polish leather
High ankle style
Ultra pointy toe winkle picker style
Chunky heel with a bit of height but not much (the heel is 1.75 inches)
I own a couple pairs of vintage winkle picker flats (and one kitten heel in two tone eggplant and beige) and find that the slim profile type work fine for me even though they elongate the foot. These have a wider visual profile with the more loafer like styling of the seams up at the top (the boots themselves are not too wide for me they just have a wider visual profile). They also have a chunky architectural heel that it's hard to tell in the photos angles slightly backwards and outward from the heel base of the boot.
So, when I first took them out and put them on my foot I said, holy cow! These make my feet look ginormous compared to my height. (mind you, I was wearing pajama bottoms and just holding the pant leg up to check them out). Even my boyfriend said they are definitely a statement boot in that regard.
This is the style for the most part but I have a hard time when I feel like a shoe makes me look like I have giant clown feet. Being not even 5 feet tall and having a shoe size (on my left foot anyway) that is already considered a bit large for someone my height (my foot has recently changed size and I now wear between a 6.5 and 7 depending on maker. I used to wear a size 6) I fear I'm probably hyper-sensitive to this and may simply see giant banana boat feet on any shoe that I feel makes my feet look big, even if it doesn't to others.
So this morning I tried the boots with a few different pant styles I'd be wearing them with (I didn't fully style them I just threw on a leopard tee and tried them with my cuffed, slightly slimmer cut AG stilt crop BF jeans as well as my Isabel Marant cropped leather pants (recently shortened and tapered). I also tried them with black leather skinny fit pants and regular dark wash skinny jeans (not shown. My photo-taking BF was still asleep when I started this whole analysis so I was doing a crappy job of trying to shoot into a mirror, while dark out, and not having the flash blow out the picture too much).
By the time I was wrapping up, though, he was up and took the last couple shots in the marant leather pants --I think those give you the best view of a full length profile so you can compare proportion of foot to overall height.
I just can't decide whether they work or I'm being hyper-sensitive.
In every other regard I'm happy with them. The boots are much higher quality and better made than I expected. Once I put an innersole in them they were rather comfy, too. The size is correct (my toes aren't squished). So it really is the profile I can't decide on.
So please be honest. Do these make my feet look ginormous? Is the profile unflattering and too "clown-like" in size?
Forgive the utter crappiness of the pics and my grayed out face. I was not even remotely caffeinated and looked a mess so didn't want to scare anyone.
I've included a product shot of the boot from the website so you can see a better view of the style of boot.
Opinions and thoughts would be very greatly appreciated!
