K/R wrap shorts

Hi all

I bought these shorts as an experiment. I am not wild about shorts generally but they are highly practical for the Australian summer. I really feel the heat. I currently have 2 pairs of shorts, both very casual denim. These appealed to me because they are dressier, and look a bit like a skirt. They would definitely be a fresh look for me.

My questions are:

1. Do they look smart, in a playful kind of way, or do they just look like bloomers on me?

2. Are the heels OK with them? I have never worn dressy shorts, so heels with shorts is also a first.

3. What sort of top would you wear? I think a cropped top is required. I have only one cropped top, shown in the first outfit. All my tops are LONG. I tried a longer top in the second outfit, and made a lame attempt at a half tuck, but I think it just looks a bit sloppy, especially from the back. Any other suggestions?

In short, fun or naff? Keep or return?

They were only $36AUD from ASOS so I am OK with trying this look out as an experiment, but please be honest!

I think you look great Brooklyn. I don't like shorts either but they are so practical for our Summers.

I like the way you have styled them with the booties, and there's nothing wrong with your half tuck! They would look great with a lot of different styles of tops IMO.

I think they are nice on you and don't look like bloomers at all. I like the length and shape of the first top but the contrast of the second top.

I think they look excellent on you but bear in mind one of my favorite shorts are what I call my baggy bloomers. you look fab!

Shevia, I wonder if you have posted photos of yourself in those shorts? I need more inspiration and reassurance. Perhaps if I search "baggy bloomers" I will find some...

You look great! I really like these. Love both tops. The cropped one definitely makes for a perfect silhouette, but the long tee half tucked in looks pretty great too. I vote Keep!

Yes, I think the shorts look smart and the heels go really well with them.
I like both tops, but the last one does look like there's quite a bit of excess fabric at the back. I do like how you've semi-tucked it. Perhaps a high-low hem that is less long would be a good bet.
I really like how the shorts are a bit more fun than a regular skirt, but are still elegant.

Brooklyn - do you remember the movie "Pretty Woman"? Julia Roberts wore a shorts suit in one scene and looked amazing elegant. You look just like that without the jacket. The shorts look stellar! I love the monochromatic outfit 1-3 best but that's a personal bias. You look terrific and great shoes. Beyond awesome and this is from someone who doesn't really like shorts (although I did rock a brown shorts suit for years after the movie. Fun and elegant and yes a cool girl skirt vibe. Please don't send them back, unless you don't feel great in them, because that are just fab!! Enjoy them!!

I think they look great on you!

They remind me of the "sarong shorts" that Suz and I both got from Zara a couple of years ago. I wear them on hot summer days when I want to be a little more dressed up and polished but not have much fabric touching my skin. I don't find them incredibly versatile, but I do enjoy having the fun variation in my warm-weather wardrobe.

Smittie, that's exactly the look I was going for - like a skirt but a bit more fun.

Janet and Suz, I see the similarity. It is reassuring that you enjoy wearing your version.

Gryffin, I do remember the shorts suit. I liked everything she wore in that movie - in the second half! And I think the shorts do have a bit of an 80s/early 90s vibe because of the pleats and the wrap effect. I am happy with that, thanks

I have been away and mostly offline, so late to this thread.

I think they suit you very well and are a fun addition. I like both stylings with a small preference for the first one. If you have other skirts/pants that a slightly cropped top will work with I would get one and then you have three ways to wear these.

I love dressy shorts on others; but sadly not on me.

Thanks Sally, that's a good idea. I do have a couple of high waisted skirts that I wear in summer. I usually wear loose high low tops with them but a loose cropped top would work too. So I could justify another cropped top that goes with both. In fact, you have reminded me that I bought an inexpensive cropped knit top (in NZ!) to wear with those skirts that I have not even tried yet. It was from a store called Glassons. So I do have another possible combination.

Aah Glassons, we call it "House of G"... it is a great source for inexpensive clothes, I have had some success stories from there over the years.

I really hope you kept them. AMAZING. I am not a shorts lover, but I LOVE these. The only other shorts I have coveted so much are Jackie's black bloomer shorts (so much better than they sound) but I think for those I'd need to be 20 years younger. Love these!!!

I like the shorts, but I'm really in love with your sleeveless cowls. My favorite summer top is a similar style, and it's starting to develop some holes. I'm discovering that non-polyester ones are harder to find than you'd think!

Thanks Jenn. That's the story of my life in summer too. The dark top is a cotton poly blend. I actually bought it as a layering piece to go over longer tops in spring/autumn. I may not be able to wear it on super hot days. Sigh!
