K/R: Willow and Clay plum riding jacket

When I saw how great Mo looked in this Willow and Clay plum colored cropped plaid fitted riding jacket, I wanted to try it for myself! It was a little hard to find but I found one for sale online at a department store called Von Maur so I ordered it. I got a size M because Mo told me they were tight in the arms. What do you think about this jacket on me? It would be my first time wearing this type of style. I like it but I'm not sure about the fit. It is super fitted and cropped. Is it supposed to look like this? Also I'm not sure about the shoulders--they are kind of puffed and stiff so when I bend my arms, it creates a "hood" or lump at the shoulder. I can't tell if this is because the jacket is too big and doesn't fit right, or whether it's supposed to be like that. It does look like there is an extra strip of fabric there so maybe the shoulders are supposed to stand out like that? The arms are very snug so I don't think I can size down though.

Totally cute jacket! I think it needs a thinner underlayer but I like the idea of a cream colored turtleneck underneath. It sits very high and tight and gives you a nice hourglass. Do you feel comfortable in it? It was super tight on me, I couldn't even get it on. I would not size down.

I just don't think it fits you right, especially in the shoulders. I'd pass.

Edit: I think you could look great in this style, though. I just don't think this is the one for you.

I was going to suggest that you size up and not down. The jacket looks amazing on you - but it's too snug right now. The shoulders are part of the cut I think. I like that part!

So, you either keep this size and adjust the position of the buttons.

Or, you size up, and adjust the position of the buttons.

Angie, what do you mean by adjust the buttons for this one and the size up? I'm not sure I can find a large though so I think it's either keep this one or return and forget about it.

Ooh, it came! I'm not too sure on the fit. It is cropped, which was a happy realization for my high waist but maybe a regular waisted gal is a different story? Mine also has the 'puffy' sleeves and I fiddled with the padding strip a little on the left shoulder actually. I agree it's meant to be that way so I think you have to decide if you like that look on you.

OK I found a size L so I'm ordering that--maybe that one will fit a little better.

Lovely jacket but the fit doesn't look right on you, Natalie. I think you need to size up. You might have to adjust the buttons to make it snug enough then, but that is easy. There might also be a sleeve alteration; hard to say.

In theory, the shape would be great on you!

OK now I understand Suz. So I might have to take the buttons in if I size up or let it out if I keep this size. Well, I'll see how the large fits before deciding. Will keep you posted!

This looks too small from the way the shoulders are bunching and the overall fit. It is such a great shape and I wouldn't give up on finding something similar. There are a bunch of Smythe jackets on sale at Nordstrom right now (too pricey for me even on sale, but so fab!)...

This jacket looks like a good cut and color for you but too small as others have already said. I'm looking forward to seeing how the L fits because it is really a nice jacket. Sure runs small doesn't it?
