K/R Wide Legs, Madewell Top - YouLookFab Forum

These all arrived late after I left town for 3 weeks so I need to decide on returns by tomorrow. But trying to be picky so would love honest feedback. TFL!

I've been wanting to lighten my palette and get some higher rise wide legs to wear with the shorter tops.

1 Madewell top - I don't own any white or ivory. I wear a lot of long sleeves in my cool mountain climate, even into summer. Does this work with the jeans?

2-4 NYDJ wide leg jeans in petite. This are a lower high rise, about 3/4" below my belly button (9.5" rise on my average lower torso). I'm tucking to show the fit for those interested, but would probably wear with shorter untucked tops as in #1 as I feel my short rise is not JFE tucked. DH approved. The fabric is nice and thick and very comfy (it is stretchy). These are in no way tight but I'm not sure a size down would give the same flow. However they may stretch a bit more.
-Is this a good fit/size?
-Are these reasonably current? i wish they were a bit light as in Find.
-Hem length for these boots?

5-6 Michal Kors flowy wide legs with pockets(!) lined (!) and side stripe (!)detail. Styled with my self made top. Super comfy, but afraid they might be too pajama-ey?

Wow! I think the white top and jeans are a slam dunk! I’ll leave pants length to others- definitely not my specialty. As for the flowy pants, I like them, but, they don’t seem quite as perfect as the other two items. Did you have specific occasions in mind for wearing them?

I think the top and jeans look fantastic. I would not hem them at all as I think the length is perfect. I like the flowy pants as well but think a more structured or fitted top would balance out the proportions a little better. I would keep all three items.

Wow, keep the jeans. They look fab in both iterations. I think the flowy pants are great for summer. Perhaps a semi tuck or a more fitted top would make them feel less pajama-ish.

1-4 look fab. The jeans make your legs look super long! The pants in 5-6 might work better with a different top, maybe a tee. The top you made is really nice and I think would look great with the jeans in 1-4. Do those jeans come in white?

LOVE the jeans and the floral print tee. I actually just got a similar jean from JCrew but mine have the 70's patch pockets on the front. Same vibe though. Length looks good to my eye. I'm not as jazzed about the MK pant but it could just be styling.

The jeans look great at this length. It’s hard to say if a size down would work - do they feel as though they have a lot of stretch in them? Maybe someone who wears NYDJ will chime in. I love both tops too. The MK pants fit very well too. They look very nice with the blouse, kind of a ’flowy on top and flowy on the bottom’ look, but you could try some other stylings as other posters have suggested, before you make up your mind on them. Gosh that was a long rambling sentence.

Thank everyone for the quick help! I will keep the jeans and top for sure - on the fence still on the MK pants. Interesting that the pink top is perceived as unstructured - it is about as fitted as I get! I may have to search the closet for styling ideas or this may be an orphan.

Kathie - good idea to think about if I have an occasion. I may not.

JAiellen - They do come in white, Nordies has both petite and misses. Note the petites are pretty long, 31". I generally find petites to be shortish, (5'2" with longer legs than torso) and I need a 2.5" heel. I may hem them or shrink them in the dryer down the road. Nordies says the white petites don't run larger the way NYDJ typically does, but the misses do run large. The blue ones I got definitely run large in the petite, at least one size, maybe more.

The first outfit is smashing on you! Jeans are a keeper and love the knotted top. I don't get pajama vibes from the MK pants but I think a shorter or tucked top would look even better. I do like the red floral on you though!

I like all 3 and would keep. The flowy pants do not give me a pj vibe. I think they would be fantastic on a hot summer day with a simple fitted tshirt.

...late to this and you have probably made your return decisions by now...but will say the white top looks great with the jeans and so does the uniqlo Tshirt. Those jeans are utterly fabulous on you! I find that NYDJ petite jeans consistently have too high a rise for me, even when not specifically "hi rise", but they are perfect on you. I'm not as much of a fan of the looser knit pants on petites (like you and me) because they can make the body shape disappear, but that does change when you move in them and your body shape is more apparent. That's just me. You've reminded me that I need to take a look at Uniqlo's tshirt offerings - they have such a great selection and such a great bargain.

Love the jeans and the top! I don’t think the pants don’t have the same wow factor. For me it’s the colour. (Not wild about grey.) A different top (shorter and more fitted around the waist) could make a difference.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions! I was out of town for a week, so sorry to post and run. Tags are off the jeans and top, and I have worn and felt fab. Still debating the flowy wide legs and would love some Finds for tops that might fit the need. They are actually a navy-blue/light blue/white tiny floral that does read like a neutral sold from a distance. Elastic waist is not my fave for tucking (they are unattractive left alone and fussy with a belt as no loops) so if I ahve to buy belt and top to make it wor, it may need to go back.

Smittie - thank you the hair comment - I've been traveling so much I have missed haircut appointments and have been kind of enjoying a different style. But it challenges as it is not wash and go like the pixie. I finally have been home for more than a day and got a trim so we'll see how long I go before I chop it all off again.
