K/R white trouser jeans

These are the Liz Claiborne trouser jeans I thrifted on Saturday and I'd like your opinions on them. I did NOT want skinny or tight fitting white denim - just way too far out of my comfort zone; so these may not be tight enough for some. However, they fit well and are comfortable. They are quite high waisted (which is fine for me due to the girdling effect they provide and the complete lack of muffin top - whoo hoo!) but would need a wee nip in at the back for the gap. They also need about an inch hemmed at the bottom so may be bunching some in the leg due to the length. I like the weight of them (not see through) and since I will never be tucking into these (again - way too far out of my comfort zone) it's primarily the leg fit I'm looking at.

I've popped on the silk Nygard polka dot blouse I also thrifted - please ignore the fact that my boobs look like two headlights! I had on a white bra and no cami when I took the shot. Please be assured I will wear the appropriate undergarments IRL!

I think they fit you very well Shannon, so I would keep them. I have a pair of white trouser jeans and they fit very similarly.

Rita - I'm wearing my highest heels right now for the pics but will be hemming them to go with shoes about 1/2 inch shorter. I'll probably need to hem them about an inch or so.

Hm. I'm not in love with these, actually. IMO, they should be slimmer through the knee break even if they are not tight on the hips or calves. I feel like your legs look bigger than they are, and usually your legs look pretty darn slim.

I like them, and don't mind them loose at the knee area for summer's heat. However, how about pinning them there just to see if Rae is talking sense? After all, the girl usually does talk sense! It might be interesting to see that silhouette since you do have a wonder woman seamstress.

The fit looks good through the hips, Shannon. The forum has warned me not to have them too tight when dealing with white.

Angie has me pausing - I never considered the boyish quality. It never occurred to me that you might have a tomboy side! Actually, I have a pair of jeans that fits very much like yours for when I channel the boyish 'tude.

Here's a comparison between the loose leg vs. slimmed knee area to help explain what I meant about the knee break. The jeans on the left are actually 3 sizes smaller than the ones on the right, even though the legs are baggier. The ones on the right still have a loose fit and don't cling, but they show more of the leg shape.

I'm really not sure what to do here. If I'm only going to have one white pair of denim jeans, then I would like to be able to wear them both casually and for work. A more "tomboyish" style may only work casually. But I could see if Wonder Woman can narrow the legs a little...?

I think it's a good idea to check with taking them in as per rae's suggestion. I think you would end up liking them better if it works out.

Just have her pin them to look at first. No need to decide until you actually see them. And if you can snap a photo in the shop, go for it!

It would be fairly inexpensive to have her taper the leg a little actually. And for the price you paid for a decent weight white denim, that would be worth it to make these custom fit.

With their current fit, they are a little on the boyfriend jeans side, which I kind of like. But they would probably more versatile if tapered a bit?

I've decided to return these jeans. I don't feel like they're close to a 10 and because I'm only going to have one pair of white denim, I would rather they fit a little better. Yes, I could take them to Wonder Woman to see what she can do but then I'm up to the cost of a new and better fitting pair. So I will continue my search - thanks for the feedback ladies.

I've made some purchasing mistakes lately (these, the green jacket, possibly the Shabby Apple skirt) and have to stop buying things because they are inexpensive and then having to tweak the heck out of them because they really didn't fit perfectly to begin with. This is a waste of money, time and energy. I've been in a bit of a buying frenzy lately - constantly feeling the need to buy, buy BUY to always have something new coming into my wardrobe. This must stop.

That sounds like a good shopping strategy. I am totally off of sales and thrifting because of my propensity to buy things just because they are a good deal, not because they are what I really wanted.

I quite liked the jeans on you, but you're right, if you're also after a business casual look then a slightly more tailored fit would probably work better.

Wait a minute there, missy! I think these are a fabulous thrifted find! White denim is difficult at retail price and these might only need a little hemming. I love the wider (straight?) leg on you. From the side it looks like a little boot cut or flare. It really gives you some great balance, instead of the effect skinnies would have. And they're not see-though, that's a real bonus. I would NOT return these unless you have their replacement in your hot little hand! And FWIW, I don't think you've made mistakes lately. Maybe look for things that don't need as much alteration in the future, but your eye is right on. I chalk my mistakes up to "Fashion School" tuition.

Oh, Shannon - I didn't post here because I figured I was in the minority with not loving them on you. I think you can do better finding a loose style that is a little more current and better fitting. These are not fab enough for you IMHO.

I hear you, girl! I have to realllly think about my swap meet buys nowadays, since I feel the same as you - tired of tweaking et al. You have some fab jeans in darker washes, so I think your chances of finding the perfect white denim are high!

Claire - I understand what you're saying but honestly, when I put them on again, I just didn't feel that "happy factor" we should be looking for. I'm not so desperate for white denim that I will settle for feeling "meh" - but I truly appreciate your opinion and your kind comments regarding my choices lately!

Okay, so here's my analysis - there are a little too ordinary for you. I'm never a fan of basics, so I try to be careful about that bias when looking at other people's posts. However, even a basic should be special to you (look at Mo's "basic" tops - always a flourish or ruffle or zipper), and in your case, I think that special element is fit. It's the same reason I didn't adore the green waffle cardi, actually.

I'm another one who is willing to compromise on fit for a thrifted item or one I'm in love with (hello, just-consigned Missoni cardi two sizes too big!) so I sympathize with the "almost but not quite" plight!
