K/R Vince leather jacket

I have it on hold at Nordie's - have until tomorrow to decide if I want to buy it. It's expensive. Would be a total splurge to celebrate my new job. I have been on the lookout for something similar for AGES. But if it's not perfect then I will keep looking. My thoughts, the pros & cons, all mixed up:

1) Love the color. It's different. A soft grayish green. Goes well with my eyes.
2) Very comfortable jacket, beautiful subtle yummy leather.
3) Has knit ribbing up the sides and on the arms - that bugs me. The pilling issue. A jacket this expensive should not have that. However, it does make it comfortable and easy to move in.
4) I like the neckline of this one better than the green one I passed by a long while back (if any of you remember that one). Not so overwhelming on my short neck.
5) I like it open a lot.
6) I like that it has a reversible zipper.
6a) Not sure about zipped up - unless I unzip a bit from the bottom, it kind of poofs over my belly? Then again at the moment i'm sporting quite a belly, from Thanksgiving and job-hunt stress. My belly is not always quite this ... Poofy....
7) I do think the sleeves may need to be shortened -- just a tad -- but Nordie's will do that.
8) I know with real leather you're supposed to buy small - this is the smallest size. Is it going to grow too much? (I may or may not grow or shrink... I'm hoping shrink, but who knows!)

Is the knit ribbing and the belly pooling a deal killer?

How this would fit in my closet:

... right now I'm pretty much packed with pleather because I can't find a real leather jacket that I love enough to drop this sort of money... and my favorite white pleather jacket is starting to crack and fall apart around the neckline

I'm going to be traveling a lot and to warmer climes so I do think a quality leather jacket is a wise investment. The question is: is it THIS one? Or keep on hunting?

Oh, I was intrigued by that jacket on the website because of the unusual but still neutral color. . Looks good open but not so sure about zipped. Some jackets just never look as good zipped so you would need to decide how you'll wear it most. Or probably I don't have enough different views of it to tell completely. How does it feel to you?

I remember the other green jacket but couldn't recall if you kept it. The color on this is lovely on you. I haven't had experience with leather jackets so don't know about them stretching/relaxing. The pulling across the bust is more noticeable to me than any tummy issues you feel with it.

It's hard to tell from these photos but I think you could safely size up one size. I find these draped jackets work better - at least for me - with a little room.

I agree wtih IK on the sizing but I love the look on you. What happened with that other fantastic green leather jacket from a while back?

I was so focused on the belly poof I didn't notice the chest. Heh. I imagine it'd loosen up all over. I would fear sizing up because leather tends to grow and loosen up a lot.

I did not keep the green jacket and I kick myself for that all the time. My hair dresser bought it - she works next to the store that was selling it. So every time I go in, she's wearing it. She looks absolutely amazing in it, green eyes and red hair. She's a few inches taller than me too, with longer neck, so that makes a difference. I loved that jacket except it was a LOT of collar for me. Also when I found that one, I was in dubious job situation (rumors of layoffs) so all in all, better I didn't buy it. It was gorgeous though. Now I am ready for the perfect jacket to find me.

I prefer the green color of the other jacket but I have to say I really did prefer the collar on this one - it was "just right" not too overwhelming, scaled for me.

I like this jacket on you in this size, any bigger would be too big.

I'm liking it, I vote Yay. I also like the idea of sizing up, as long as the fit is good in the shoulders. The sleeves look easy to shorten. I have never found leather to stretch *that* much, unless it is cheap, thin leather or suede. To me good leather molds more than stretches and I believe this is probably made from good leather (although the fabrications at Vince can go either way).

I don't love the way the pockets look when it's zipped up. But, why would you wear it zipped? I've NEVER worn a jacket zipped or buttoned, except for one that is designed to be worn closed.

I love the color, I think it's terrible versatile and this will be fab in warmer climates. I wouldn't worry about the pilling - it's unlikely to pill much and even that won't be for years, likely. I say go for it!

The SA at Wilson Leather told me that a jacket will stretch a half size but I've never had this happen, not even with leather pants or skirt. The jacket looks great on you open. Voting Keep.

I think you should keep it in this size. How often will you wear it zipped up? It's really too think to be outerwear, even here in Seattle. I I have this jacket and love it, but I do think it looks funny zipped up (and it's big enough so that I could wear a tank, tee, and denim shirt under it today). This jacket has been really versatile for me. I was skeptical about the ribbing too, but it hasn't pilled yet, and I like that the arms are stretchy enough to accommodate a sweater underneath.

ETA: I am a busty IT (with very wide shoulders), and not a petite and the small fits me fine.

I've never really had a lined leather jacket stretch significantly on me. I'd try a size up if you want to wear it closed. It's a great color and style on you though! If you don't think you'll be zipping it up, I think the current size looks good.

I love this on you and I vote 100% keep. I definitely prefer it to the other one, which I remember well! I don't love it when zipped, but I don't think you'll wear it that way, will you? I've never worn my leather jacket zipped, except to layer a trench overtop. I unzip it as soon as the trench comes off, so no one ever sees it zipped.

I'd size up. But I'm obviously in the minority in actually zipping up my jackets. I don't quite understand the idea of never doing so. What about when it gets cooler/warmer? That's when I zip/unzip accordingly.

Would you wear it mostly open or mostly closed?

It looks to me like it'd be too roomy worn open if you went up a size. It is already flaring out from your body quite a bit in pic 1. I suppose the only true test would be to try the next size, though.

As for stretching, my blue Muubaa is the only one that has stretched - but it is also the only one that is super fitted and that I have worn through significant activity. So if you want that second-skin look, you might try wearing it in the house while doing a little workout or housework or something. As I've continued wearing the Muubaa, I've also found that it gets a bit bigger as it warms up to my body temperature.

I would not size up either. The shoulders fit well and the poofiness (not a word I know spell check) will not be softened with wear. I really like it on you. Keep or go get it.

As of this morning I am still on the fence about it. I guess I could buy it, bring it home, and give it a week or so, see it in my own mirror (I don't trust Nordie's mirrors), return it if I change my mind? That's the good thing about Nordie's, right?

In retrospect, I think my tummy is SUPER bloated at the moment -- I am really late on my period (yeah for perimenopause!) and that tends to happen right before it arrives. Then again, maybe it's the pockets I don't need? The green jacket had no pockets so it laid a lot better/flatter.

Yes, I would want to zip it up. At this price, it has to work both ways. Zipped and unzipped. I do frequently zip my pleather jackets, and add a scarf tightly wound around my neck, when weather turns chillier. The only one I rarely zip is the 3/4 sleeve cropped moto -- it is VERY light weight and cannot be worn in cold weather at all (leaves midsection out in the cold...brrrr), except under a heavier coat.

Eh... so on fence. Maybe I want to keep looking, but focus on Vince and Veda brands. I am frustrated that my local Nordie's only ever has one or two in stock in the store - they sell out quickly. But I see more choices online.

Shiny, I just went over and checked out this jacket in the store today. I didn't realize it has ribbed sides as well as ribbed sleeves - what that says to me is it is unlikely to stretch in the waist or bust, since there won't be enough tension on the leather itself. So if you don't like the way it looks zipped right now, I'd probably pass and keep looking. :T

Passing it up - my ideal is out there somewhere. I did like the neckline on this one a lot. Add that to my wish list. But no pockets. Do not need the added poof right there!

It's beautiful open, but I think you should keep searching. By the way, I haven't found that any of my leather jackets grow much, so I would buy one that fits just the way you want it. Have you checked jackets from June? They used to make nice ones.

I like this one better than the other green one. It looks great on you and comfortable. I like the knit they put in the sleeves because it makes the jacket fit so nice.
