K/R: Vince Bowen vs. SE Cruz - YouLookFab Forum

I love the slip-on sneaker look and jumped in as soon as I saw them. They fit my super casual lifestyle perfectly. But, I cannot make up my mind on which pair to keep. Like many of you, I have tried several pairs of slip-on sneakers (Corso Como, Van's, Ash) and these ended up as my top two based on color, comfort and style. I was hoping to get a leather pair but haven't been able to find a pair that work for my feet. I love the more refined look of the Vince but since they are suede and cannot be worn in wet weather I'm wondering if the SE's are the better choice?

Photos 1-2 are a side-by-side comparison and 3-5 are a few of the ways I hope to wear the sneakers this fall.

I would appreciate any thoughts you might have to help me make a decision.

Both look nice. I would base my decision on comfort, if all things are equal.
The suede ones can always be treated with waterproofing spray, so I don't think that should be an issue.

I agree with Parsley. I love my Cruz but they are not leather and so have creased with wear. I think the Vince may hold up better in the long run. However, I'm unable to get the white sides as white as they were at the beginning so would likely retire them earlier than I would a traditional pair of shoes. Love both of these in terms of how they look. Great shoes!

Vince does make these in leather - I've tried them on several times. I loved them, but finally went with a Michael Kors pair - same shoe for about half the price (in Cdn $).

Vince and weather proof the suede. A cobbler can do it. Angie uses spray on stuff also.

Thank you all! With your input and suggestions I've decided to return the SE Cruz and keep the Vince Bowen.....unless something else pops up before the cool weather hits.

Parsley, I do treat my suede shoes and boots (and even my Ugg slippers) but have never had confidence to wear them in wet weather. Do you have a suggestion for a spray that has been successful for you?

Kellygirl, I was concerned the Cruz wouldn't hold up especially since they will be a workhorse. And thank you for pointing out the dirty white side issue. Have you tried a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser? I use them on my gear shoes to keep the white parts white. It's the only thing I've found that really works.

lisap, I did try the leather Vince you posted. They fit my foot different than the suede Bowen, in a bad way. Also, I searched for a MK version with no luck. Do you have a link you can share?

bj1111, do you think it would be better to have a cobbler do the weather proofing or does the spray I can use at home work just as well?

Oh,Colette, I am jealous the Bowens fit you! SE Cruz fits me great, but the Bowens would not work for me.

And funny but I saved and posted that exact image of the woman in the leggings as a sneaker look inspiration! Enjoy them.

i think Angie had good luck with the spray at home thing.

i too am jealous that the bowens fit you. i was between sizes and the smaller one made my toes numb, the larger one slipped of my foot and nearly brained my long suffering husband. i think i need to take my stride down a notch.

Nordstrom shoe department sells a great suede spray. I can't find it on their website though.

Viva, how funny we picked the same picture! That picture was my inspiration for slip-on sneakers. I have been trying some leggings with faux leather insets but have not found the pair that works for me yet.
