K/R VC ruched midi

I was so looking forward to this skirt, which took over 3 weeks to come. But I thought it was a lighter blue, not ink (monitor fail). Styled it with my ink blue rayon tee which I already had on--if you already have it on, does it count as styling?

Love the front view, love the back view. The side I'm not so sure of. At all. Any thoughts?

I think it looks great. Sometimes when we wear something more form fitting, I think it takes our eyes a bit of time to adjust. Lovely silhouette!

Okay guys, I seriously appreciate all the skirt love, but WHERE would I wear this to? Work--no, church--no, first date--oh right! I don't date, and if I did I would try not to look hoochy on the first date! I would wear this out to dinner with the kids, if DD is willing to modify her stance which was "No Mom no Mom No!" when I tried on another version.

It might be comfy for dog walking or yoga

Suz, I'm attaching a find. I can't find them in my color, but they are from Macy's. They're sort of the updated version of that Alfani sandal that Angie did a couple of years ago. They actually remind me a little of your new wedge sandals, which I love.

Love this skirt. Side view is fine -- you wouldn't bat at eye if you were dealing with skinny jeans -- same profile.

Ooh... is it fair that I echo Angie's KILLER, considering I also recently added this skirt to my own closet? Meaning I am not all that impartial here. I got the black, because that's all they offer for petites. I wanted the ink instead... but black was all there was in petites... so after weeks of endless debate, I finally took the plunge. I've worn it only once so far (this past weekend). It is coming with me to my next business trip, for which I leave tomorrow. I have it planned out to wear on the plane ride back home, but as I was packing tonight, I came up with two potential outfits that I could possibly decide to wear for the business portion of my trip.

So hopefully that answers your "where do I wear it" question: anywhere!! It all depends on how you style it!! This weekend I wore it with a garden variety, purple V-neck tee shirt, fluid fit, semi-tucked, with Birk-like sandals, to tromp all over the city showing my visiting friends around. This week I may wear it for smart casual business meetings, with heels + fluid/drapey silk top, OR I may pair with a grey tee shirt and flats to travel comfortably/stylishly home in. Chances are high I'll run into colleagues before I fly out, so I want to look nice just in case.. but appropriately comfortable/more casual than for the meetings.

I have to tell you... I am having major shoe envy!! As I was packing tonight, I was wishing I had a silver sandal... pulling up this thread and seeing you in exact same skirt but with those sandals... oh my... if I had those in my closet, they'd be packed already!

I played around with this skirt tonight as I was packing and I identified 4 shirts in my closet right now that would work with it, so KEEP and play around some more! I think you are definitely on the right track here, with the top you've chosen. I tried on a very similar combo myself tonight, but I am already bringing a black dress and black tee + black skirt looked too similar to that, so I wound up packing instead a somewhat voluminous silk blouse that is white with a pattern, I will wear it untucked. I love the untucked/fluid/voluminous blouse over this skirt. I also packed the light grey tee, which is a bubble top with banded hem, so also voluminous.

I have to get to sleep because I fly out early, I am tired from packing so totally rambling now -- long story short--- KEEP KEEP KEEP!!!

Oh, love the skirt, and hope you keep it! I have the same skirt in black and it fits me pretty much the same way. I wore it this weekend when helping a friend shop for a wedding dress and felt perfectly fine in it,

I know what you mean though, I am somewhat busty as well, so can look just as "va-va-Voom" ... which is a good thing for date night, not so much what I'm going for, for a work look.

But I found tonight while experimenting to pack, that a top with longer length that is voluminous -- enough so that it falls straight down from the chest and disappears any hint of a waist, not even semi-tucked, no waist -- takes away just enough of the va-va-voom.

Yet still looks flattering as can be... and fashionable...possibly because of the length of the skirt (modest). I guess it is same fashion-flattery principle as wearing a voluminous top over skinny jeans?

Top length needs to be a little longer than what you show here -- something hitting at the low hip not the high hip. Do you have a chambray or denim skirt? If so, try that, untucked.

GAH ...looking at your pics again... I am still having total shoe envy over here!!

Shiny, you are a tonic. Truth be told, I love this skirt. Even more truth be told, I had it packed and taped for a return before I posted. I guess a tiny voice was screaming to be heard.

You have given me lots of ideas. Number one being to *wear it on the plane* in 36 hours. I'm going to North Carolina, woohoo, to visit DD2 and her husband. I'll save the matching top for our (classical) concert on Saturday and wear a gray tee on the plane. I didn't want to wear boyfriend jeans anyway. They'll be far too heavy for NC.

I actually have two silk satin "tees" that were Angie's picks. They are hi-low but quite long. They'd be perfect, not for packing, but for dignified looks at work or church. They are black and cream.

As for the sandals, google "Alfani Maribeth". If you wear a 7 or 8 they are here on ebay:

The fit is so awesome! Definitely a keeper.

I think it is a versatile piece. If you want to make it less body con, maybe a long/oversized vest or lightweight cardi over it?

Adelfa, I'm so glad you are thinking of ways to wear this skirt, because it looks smashing on you, from all sides. And ink blue! Wow, what a great color. I laughed at your question about styling--I think if it matches the top you have on, there's practically no styling required, and that is a sign that it is meant to be in your wardrobe.
I admit I have trouble with this silhouette on myself, too. But with all the great looks I'm seeing here on YLF (including yours), I'm thinking I'll have to give the tube skirt more consideration.

Firecracker, I am going to wear it on the plane. I won't know anybody and it won't matter! And then to a concert in NC. By then I should be used to it. The skirt has an odd pull. I tried it on at the store in the wrong size and couldn't get it out of my head.

I think you should try on a tube skirt. I have two from last year. The ruching seemed to take it further. They are all really fun.

Glad you are keeping because it's gorgeous! I did try something similar and was disappointed that it was way too va va voom on me and it was a one size fits all! I ended up returning and finally found a similar skirt with a drape that created a similar look but was much more comfortable for me and less "Jessica Rabbit" :). Yours reads as very elegant and modern and I think once you get used to it, it could become a workhorse.

It looks incredible on you!! I completely understand about church, though. I won't wear mine to church without covering up my backside, though I do wear it to work as is. The thread below has several photos of Fabbers, including me, wearing the tube skirt with longer cardigans. I've worn my two posted looks to church.

Adelfa, I'm glad you're able to find places to wear the skirt! It's so fun to try something a little out of our comfort zone. I think we always benefit.

To be honest, I wouldn't worry too much about wearing it to church. If all you're uncomfortable with is the side view, consider the fact that the side is only a small part of your silhouette, so it's not like everyone will be exposed to your side view 100% of the time. The other thing you can do is wear a lightweight drapey cardigan (I think I remember you posting a WIW with one of these) that covers the top of your backside.
